Spitzer Sues Bush Over SCHIP

Eliot Spitzer, after weathering a rather nast right-wing smear attempt over the past month, is now threatening to sue the Bush administration if Bush goes ahead with his SCHIP strategy and cuts health care to kids in New York state.  Spitzer is doing an event tomorrow with Hillary Clinton, which will be webcast tomorrow at 10:30am.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, and I will say that Spitzer actually knows how to fight.

But the new rules include what Mr. Spitzer called "poison pill" requirements that he said would effectively kill New York's and others states' plans.

"If they come back to us and refuse to budge from the positions they've taken, then we will sue," he said.

Suing the Bush administration to protect the health coverage of poor children?  Now that's the Eliot Spitzer we all know and love.

Let's Hope Jerry Brown Jumps In, Too (0.00 / 0)
I'm not a real Jerry Brown fan.  But there are times when his hot-dogging can be a real plus.

I'm not sure about the law here, and whether California's AG can act independently of the Gropenator, but I think he can.  And the Gropenator is not exactly loving the hardline conservatives in his party right now.

considering Arnold only signed a letter with Spitzer and did not threaten to sue like NY just did.  To think I was pleased with him just sending a letter.  Good on Spitzer.

But actually getting stuff done?

Not so much.

I think the Terminator is smart enough .. (0.00 / 0)
to know that denying kids health insurance protection is as dumb as Larry Craig .. it's a no lose for him ... especially if he's gonna challenge Barbara Boxer at some point

It will be a good day (0.00 / 0)
when Spitzer runs for President.

That should also prove useful in the ongoing fight with Joe Bruno's republicans in the state Senate; both by refocusing the public on actual governance, and by reminding the public that they really don't like republicans in general.

Just, Matt, I'm not entirely sure it was a right-wing smear attempt.  Joe Bruno and the NY GOP are kind of beyond description on a left-right scale. =D

Make no small plans.
