Reid Denies Race Charge

A day after my post on Harry Reid, he appeared on Meet the Press to deny the Sun-Times report that he believes - or told Gov. Blagojevich - that he believed top Illinois African American leaders were "unelectable." I'm glad Reid did this, and in the spirit of "innocent till proven guilty" and in light of what I originally noted was his stellar legislative record on race issues, I am inclined to believe him.

That said, it doesn't negate the fundamental point of the original post, which is that in political circles, black candidates are often billed as politically inferior or "unelectable," - and that such latent racism is considered mundane. We need to get over that racism, and if this Reid controversy - whether rooted in fact or rooted in Blagojevich spin - helped forward the dialogue on that racism, then it's a good thing.

Someone is playing chicken here (4.00 / 1)
The report specifically said that some of this conversation is on tape.

Someone, either Blagojevich or Reid, is convinced that the transcripts of these tapes will not be coming out at least for a few months.

My feeling is that the taped conversation should be made pubic now.   Fitzgerald made other parts of the tapes public about the senate seat.

In fact I think all the tapes regarding the seat should be transcribed for the public.  The people of Illinois should have full disclosure on what was conveyed to Blagojevich from Reid and Emanuel.

If it's on tape and Reid denies it (0.00 / 0)
and then it comes out that he's a liar I wonder what will happen to him. Nothing will happen to Blago for lying that's not already going to happen to him.

it's on tape (0.00 / 0)
Only reason Blago leaked it. He's taking as many folks down with him as he can. I believe Blago. Sure. It was a 'coincidence' that ALL the ones being blocked were Black.

Ok.

Well, to be fair (0.00 / 0)
the only source for the claim that they were being blocked was Blago (unless I've missed something).

I don't know who to believe. It is hard to trust a guy who has been proven to be corrupt to the core.

And I'm not sure I believe Blago, either.

Zing!
