First, we learn from the administration that President Obama will overturn the Global Gag Rule today. Under the Global Gag Rule, no U.S. government funding for family planning services could go to clinics that offered abortion counseling or services abroad, even if this money came from sources outside of our government.
With a few flicks of the pen today, this will be GONE.
But that's not all.
We also learn that Obama has finally (likely thanks to Sec. of State Hillary Clinton) asked for the resignation of George Bush's Global AIDS Coordinator, Mark Dybul. Dybul oversaw PEPFAR under President Bush, and as many have been calling for here at Amplify over the pastweek, Dybul needed to hit the road, as his adherence to abstinence-only programs was endangering the health of vulnerable young people all over the planet.
Today, Mark Dybul's office will be all packed up.
Elections have consequences... and this time one of the many positive consequences will be many millions of women around the world seeing an improvement in their own sexual and reproductive health and rights.
