If the Senate thinks it is fair to bottle up cabinet nominations because the nominees have close associations to people with ethical questions, then it is time to stall Jud Gregg's nomination, too. One of Judd Gregg's top aides is currently being targeted in the Abramoff probe:

Gregg Says He's Not Target of Abramoff Probe

Although a former top aide to Sen. Judd Gregg (R) allegedly accepted more than $10,000 in gifts from disgraced ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff and associates, the New Hampshire Senator said Wednesday that he is not a target in the Justice Department's ongoing probe.

The Associated Press identified Kevin Koonce as the anonymous "Staffer F" described in a plea agreement entered last week by former Abramoff deputy Todd Boulanger.

Koonce, who worked as Gregg's legislative director from 2002 to 2004 before leaving Capitol Hill, allegedly accepted tickets to baseball and hockey games, as well as meals and drinks at the now-defunct Signature's restaurant.

Anyone want to place an anonymous hold on Judd Gregg?

Does he have to resign before his confirmation hearing? (4.00 / 1)
If so, wait until he's gone, stick in an anonymous hold and then knee-cap him relentlessly. It'll make Obama look bad for a day or two, but on the plus side it will irrevocably sink the post-partisanship meme, which needs to happen for good policy to be made.

sadly, he doesn't (4.00 / 1)
need to resign until he is confirmed.  Clinton, for example, did that.

we dont need this (0.00 / 0)
gregg needs to be stopped. we dont need this headline as this is bound to come up in the hearings.

Does CommDep (0.00 / 0)
directly run anything that is particularly important? I mean besides NOAA, and other such independent organizations that fall under the umbrella of Commerce.

Because if it's not too dangerous of a position to give to Gregg, I'd much rather have Bonnie Newman as the Senator from NH- much more likely to vote with the Dems than he would.

Census but... (0.00 / 0)
They pulled that out from commerce apparently due to Gregg wanting to abolish it or some other such thing.

I still don't get the point of this appointment. I mean, even if you're dead set on having a Republican at that post, I don't know why Gregg is the choice.

Good pick up for 2010 (0.00 / 0)
Plus the replacement is his chief of staff and a placeholder, I am guessing Gregg has good creds with her if Obama wants to influence a vote.
