"Democrat Party" Pissing Off Matthews

Has anyone noticed that Chris Matthews has moved a bit off the center in the last year or so? He used to be reliably centrist in his yelling but at some point during the second term of the Torture Administration he developed a bit of a conscience. At least sometimes. Today he went off on Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) for using the phrase "Democrat Party." The Issa comments is at 4:43 and the Matthews upbraiding at about 5:05 in the video below:

If you can't play the video Matthews ignores Issa's point and instead points out his use of "Democrat" and asks "Why do we have to do this every night?" He also calls it "Mickey Mouse" and says "let's just call people what they call themselves."

Gotta love it.

seems like he goes which ever way the wind is blowing and what will keep his ratings high, i appreciate the support but that support is very shallow indeed.

Barney, I love you, but... (4.00 / 1)
please angle your face upwards towards the camera. Video is unkind enough as it is.

I always thought Matthews was fairly liberal (0.00 / 0)
But just misunderstood.  He think he got a little intimidated around 2004 and became a little more conservative.

But I think he just got in trouble with progressive bloggers for saying dumb politically incorrect things and for asking liberals about conservative talking points (even though he was just giving them the opportunity to offer rebuttals).

I think he has been showing more disgust with right-wing verbal trickier, partly because that's the way the wind is blowing.

Chris Matthews has said this before (4.00 / 2)
Just not as vociferously.  Actually I have to say that he is the only newsperson who has consitently brought this up.  He understands it's meant to be demeaning.

He is still a weathervane, but I am glad he's blowing our way.

Issa and Lies (0.00 / 0)
Did I hear another GOPig lie in the making?  Issa said that two-thirds of both houses of the California legislature are Democrats (at 10 minutes and 48 seconds.)  NOT TRUE!  This is a big deal out here as it takes two-thirds of each house of the state legislature to pass a budget.  Democrats have the majority in each house, but not two-thirds.

I cannot imagine Issa not knowing this, especially after what we've been through out here -- a budget eight months late and the legislature caving to State Senator Abel Maldonado's (R-Santa Maria) Blackmail primary, a Louisiana-style free-or-all which if approved will allow politicans to omit their party affiliation from the ballot  -- and it's not over yet with a special election on May 19th that will have seven propositions on it, six of them -- Props 1A through 1F -- directly budget-related.  I suspect Issa is trying to plant the lie in the public mind that the GOPigs are not to blame for the inability of the legislature to pass a budget when, in fact, they are soley responsible.

You can find more on the California budget mess at calitics.
