Debating Bill Kristol at 7:15am EST on Fox News

by: David Sirota

Thu Mar 05, 2009 at 01:06

At 7:15am EST, I'm scheduled to be on Fox & Friends to debate Bill Kristol about the economy and the success of the Obama administration so far. Tune in - should be fun (although, it will be 5:15am Denver time, so it's going to be early!). I'll post the video after the segment.

Does the boycott of Fox News not apply to you? Or do you not feel that going onto their show legitimises a news organisation that is really anything but?

Ad nauseum (4.00 / 2)
We've gone over this ad nauseum. Not going to waste my time repeating what has been repeated 50,000 times in numerous hijacked comments, other than to say it is my belief - and the belief of many others - that we should challenge conservatives in every venue possible. If you don't like it, fine. That's your right. But please refrain from hijacking a comments section that literally has been debated 50,000 times. It just gets old and tired after a while.

I hear you, but... (0.00 / 0)
Considering much of the energy to boycott Fox came from OpenLeft, it does seem a little strange.

There was no boycott of Fox (0.00 / 0)
Just a bunch of people who refused to appear on Fox News when it was convenient for them to "boycott".

A true boycott of Fox would involve not watching the Simpsons, Family Guy, and whatever sci-fi medical show they are running. But, I never heard any of the "boycott" supporters advocate for such. It was a lame attempt that was mis-guided from the outset.

Huh (0.00 / 0)
That ain't exactly how I remember it.

Over the last year, people kept the Democrats from debating there, Brave New Films started its Fox Attacks videos, and Color of Change, Move On and others (with a lot of promotion from sites like this one) branded Fox as racist.

So, yes, it seems weird that Sirota just does it anyway.

Still, no boycott (0.00 / 0)
As much as it was promoted it was never a boycott.

Just to be clear, I think its great that there are "leftists" like D. Sirota who are willing to into the Fox's den and take their message to the veiwing demographic that sorely needs a dose or two of an alternative perspective. It easier to preach to the choir, after all.

Bill Kristol?! Whoa... watch out, David! (4.00 / 1)
And don't be intimidated by the mightiest  weapon in Bill's formidable debating arsenal.

I'm talking of course about that self-satisfied little smirk he plasters on his Pillsbury-dough-boy-goes-to-prep-school mug while illuminating us with yet another pearl of Kristolian Neo-Con wisdom.

When he does try to bust a move on you by pursing those porcine lips and arching a single, pale eyebrow,  or wscrunching up his face in that disapproving little squint, just try to keep in mind that "Dan Quayle's Brain" has been absolutely, relentlessly and stupidly WRONG WRONG WRONG about basically every SINGLE effing thing he's droned on about for the past ten years or so. Or maybe ever, for that matter.

As I'm sure you know, David, the litany of Kristol's pathetically bass-ackward propaganda-disguised-as-opinions is pretty damn impressive:  WMD's, predictions of a "secular Iraq". "Victory" in Iraq. Um... everything about Iraq in general. Sarah Palin. The 2008 election. The economy. His fact-challenged column in the NYTimes that caused corrections by his editors,  etc; etc; etc.

And almost as impressive is the utterly baseless smug expression with which Kristol delivers his dangerous drivel.

But hey, if it starts to rattle you, just remember that Billy resembles nothing so much as Lovie Howell in a Bill Blass suit (albeit with blood on his hands).

Oh, and if you think of it, maybe repeat the question Colbert asked your opponent a year or two ago: "So, how's that project for a New American Century going so far?

don't use facts to make your argument, they are irrelevant to him like most of his ilk.

Fox 'News' is a joke 24/7, but 'Fox and Friends'... (0.00 / 0)
...makes 'Hee Haw' seem highbrow. I guess the first question during the segment was a 'toss up', because neither you nor Kristol seemed to know whether it was directed at either of you. Congratulations on taking the initiative and answering it nonetheless.

The next time Fox 'News' wants you to 'spar' with Billy Kristol, why don't you propose an actual mud wrestling match to be refereed by one of the scantily clad 'delectables' from the Moonlite Bunny Ranch (at the Nevada end of that earmark-funded, high-speed, maglev rail line to Disneyland). Roger Ailes is always looking for creative new ways to add even more 'T&A' to the Fox 'News' broadcasts.
