Our heartfelt thanks to Debra, a longtime and active member of OpenLeft, for her humbling generosity. -Adam

Actually the title should really read Make Me Match You.  The first is a little punning on the fact that my daughter got married last weekend, which is one of many reasons that I am proposing that anyone who can scratch together some money to donate to Open Left can and will see it doubled.

I consider Open Left an investment in the future that I want for my daughter, her new husband and the grandchildren I (and they too, really I am not just a typical, nudgy mother!) am hoping for.

Open Left has carved out its place in the political and media sphere.  I want to make sure it stays there, fully engaged and powerful. It is a very crucial part of the conversation, the political activity that is going to "secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity". (Can't stop talking about posterity, can I?)

One day walking across my hometown's very historic town Green, (one of the centers of New England Townhall meeting governments) it was at that moment I realized I was a liberal.  Being a liberal meant making manifest in all its various permutations, what those words I quoted above meant.  And I have stayed a liberal and a progressive....even when people looked askance  and thought I must be nuts.

The internet validated and supported those feelings.  And Open Left has done a great deal to turn those visions into poltical activity that turns the word left, liberal, and progressive,  into words one can say very loud and proud.

So I will match, one to one, every dollar that anyone gives on this site up to $1000.00. I think it is important that we "secure the blessings of liberty" for Open Left itself, i.e. the right to write and agitate for whatever this terrific place thinks is necessary to secure my (and yours if your have and/or want) grandchildren's future.

So make me match you. As a member of the Open Left community to all the others of the community who do, I thank you wholeheartedly.

OK, that worked (0.00 / 0)

I Just Cost You $60.... (4.00 / 1)

Thanks.  Your match was a good motivator.  I have been checking in here, noting the fundraising, and intending to contribute -- later -- but your match made "later" seem more like an excuse than a reason.  Contributing to OpenLeft feels about as good as anything I do.

I want to thank any and all of you who will or have contributed. (4.00 / 1)
I was unsure if I could access the internet today.  I am switching offices and things are being plugged and unplugged.

So while I can still access the internet, I want to take the oppurtunity to thank you all.

You are so awesome. Support from friends like you is very moving. Thank you.

It might a good idea to consider a separate chipin widget for each such sizeable matching donation (0.00 / 0)
There's already been over $1,000 donated, so you must mean "from now on". The accounting can get a bit confusing, but one way to keep it straight, and also supply additional motivation for matching donations, is to show the separate offers distinctly.

Just my 2 cents....

All in for $50 (4.00 / 1)
I gave because in a world of political blogs that are entirely too focused on the politics of the moment and playing "gotcha" with each other, Open Left takes a much wider view of systemic trends, and gives us a much deeper view of movements, ideals, and structures. It challenges common wisdom and reminds us that there's more to building a better world than pants-ing the GOP for whatever dumb thing they've done this week.

Put simply, it is indispensable to me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I help run a progressive blog in West Virginia and we have benefited significantly from the generosity (financial and otherwise) of BlogPAC/OpenLeft.

OpenLeft provides me a daily dose of sustenance. I can't thank you enough for your help in making sure this valuable resource for progressive activists all over the country will continue to be here.
