- "Our health care system doesn't need much reform. We have great doctors and hospitals. The method of health care financing is what needs reform."

- Help whip the public option. (via)

- A good roundup of current thinking on healthcare and climate change legislation.

- Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske has a very limited vocabulary with regard to the Drug War.

- On the split in Obama's agricultural policy.

- Maybe we need a slow money movement.

- News writer hopelessly wedded to the useless idealist/realist dichotomy in foreign policy thinking can't just come out and say that Obama's stance towards Iran is that he's minding his own business and respecting their sovereignty, even if he does criticize their human rights administration.

Morning Co.: Starbucks screws up. Badly and dangerously. (0.00 / 0)
To be more specific, it's their coffee grinders who screw up unexpectedly and may dangerously hurt their users:

530,000 Starbucks coffee grinders recalled-laceration hazard!
Seattle Barista Blade high risk for laceration injury causes federal recall.

Seattle, WA(JusticeNewsFlash.com)-Federal regulators and Starbuck's Coffee Co., issued a recall of approximately 530,000 Starbucks Barista Blade Grinders and Seattle's Best Coffee Blade Grinders on June 16, 2009. Starbucks Coffee Co. is a firm based out of Seattle, Washington. The reason for the federal recall is the potential laceration hazard when using the recalled product. The coffee grinder can turn on by itself out of the blue or fail to shut off properly.

Don't take any chances, folks, if you own this product, disconnect it immediately and return it!

Morning, Bo: In loving memory of Bo Diddley (0.00 / 0)
Sry, I'm a bit late to notice that, but about one year ago Rock'n Roll pioneer Bo Diddley died. Honoring the famous and influential musician, a mural has been unveiled showing the well-beloved guitar player "in action" at the new Bo Diddley Community Plaza, Gainesville, Fl:

Plaza renamed in honor of legend Bo Diddley
The mural, created by Robby Rucker, was based on an existing mural in the plaza.
Kicking off a weekend full of events in honor of the late rock 'n' roll legend Bo Diddley, a new mural was unveiled downtown Friday night as part of the official ceremony renaming Gainesville's downtown plaza the Bo Diddley Community Plaza.

A beautiful memorial for the great musician. I'm sure "Bo knows" he's not forgotten!

World's rich increase health care spending in recession (4.00 / 1)
It's a luxury good!

And I'd be a lot more comfortable with people whipping for the public option if anybody actually knew what it was. (Single payer advocates, by contrast, have the already drafted HR 676 to look at; we know what we're advocated before we started). Hastily crafted legislation NOW NOW NOW? What  could go wrong?

I am in earnest -- I will not equivocate -- I will not excuse -- I will not retreat a single inch -- AND I WILL BE HEARD.

Morning, Jo! Jozy Altidore turns soccer match against Spain, US wins 2-0 (0.00 / 0)
U.S. sends shockwaves across Europe with win against Spain
The United States' memorable bid for the ultimate tournament rally lives on. A night of stubborn, committed defending and opportunistic sniping saw the United States upend mighty Spain 2-0 in an absolute stunner.

Just a few days earlier, Bob Bradley's men had been written off as finished in the Confederations Cup. But a brave, highly improbable three-goal win over Egypt pushed the United States into the tournament semifinals and arranged the stage for Wednesday's shocker. Still, few gave the United States much of a chance against the world's No. 1 side, a fluid Spanish team blessed with elegant midfielders and prolific strikers.

Now a date with either Brazil or South Africa awaits on Sunday (the Brazilian giants and the Confederation Cup hosts meet on Thursday in the second semifinal). But Bradley's side, full of properly channeled fight and purpose in Wednesday's 2-0 win, has surely won some absolution after a spring of performances that ranged from OK to indifferent to fairly pitiful.

Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey supplied Wednesday's goals, but inspiring performances could be found all over the field in a result that's sure to make global headlines. It snapped the reigning European champions' 15-match winning streak and jaw-dropping 35-match unbeaten streak.

As a European, I have to say I'm really stunned. Spain isn't just "somebody" in soccer, usually they're tops. Congratulations, US!

What a horrible story in that U-Tube clip. (4.00 / 1)
And what's even more horrible is that this women has to grovel to Congressman Joe Barton, who, at least intervened with Blue Cross on her behalf.  But of course, as a Republican, he won't do a goddamned thing to prevent this kind of thing from happening on a societal as opposed to an individual level.

sTiVo's rule: Just because YOU "wouldn't put it past 'em" doesn't prove that THEY did it.
