If homosexuality is a disease, let's all call in queer to work. Hello, can't work today. Still queer." -- Robin Tyler

My Aunt Lorraine said, "Bob, you're gay. Are you seeing a psychiatrist?" I said, "No. I'm seeing a lieutenant in the Navy." -- Bob Smith

I don't even consider myself bisexual. Frankly, I just think of myself as a "people person." -- Michael Dane

- Did Texas police seriously raid a gay bar on the anniversary of Stonewall? Seriously?

- A federal law has now been introduced to ban mountaintop removal mining (MTR). Let's see if Congress can bring themselves to stop the leveling of the oldest mountain range in the world before the millenium hand on my watch ticks over.

- Goldman Sachs owns our *sses. (Via.)

- Sen. Claire McCaskill is objectively pro-Peabody Energy. Noted.

- The Honduran Army, in keeping with international post-coup traditions, is muffling the media.

- Sen. Baucus is fixated on a $1 billion price tag for healthcare reform, Congress Matters explains what this means in context of budget reconciliation.

- Scientists detail the discovery of a 35,000 year old flute, the oldest musical instrument found to date.

- Someone seems to have designed a type of concrete that absorbs and sequesters carbon dioxide.

-- Natasha and I are getting married on July 18th, so I thought it would be appropriate to write a Morning No together, and you might be seeing this more often (Chris).

-- (Chris) The U.S. withdrawal from Iraqi cities is all the more important because General Odierno, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, had originally said back in December "the June 30 date was the date we gave them, not vice versa." Given that we withdrew anyway, it is a positive sign that President Obama is serious about following through with the complete, no residual forces withdrawal mandated by the Status of Forces Agreement for December 31, 2011. (Chris Bowers)

-- (Chris) House of Representatives faction update:
Democrats
Progressive Only: 75
Both Progressive and New Democrat: 2
New Democrat* Only: 49
Both Blue Dog and New Democrat: 17
Blue Dog Only: 35
Other Democrats: 78
*(They called themselves "Democrat," not me. Also, website temporarily down because Chair Ellen Tauscher has resigned from the House)

Republicans
Tuesday Group Only: 31
Tuesday Group and Study Committee: 3
Study Committee Only: 108
Other Republicans: 35

-- (Chris) According to an ABC conducted last week, 56% of the country is willing to support a cap and trade program if it costs them $10 / month in higher electricity bills, but only 44% are willing to support cap and trade if it costs them $25 / month in higher electricity bills. While the battle is lost pretty much as soon as we start talking about prices at all, it is kind of amusing to see 12% of the country put such a specific price on their willingness to support a piece of legislation.

-- (Chris) Deep thought of the morning: Sonia Sotomayor is so out of the mainstream of the Supreme Court, that four members of the Supreme Court, including the guy she is replacing, upheld her most controversial decision. That is pretty fringe.

-- (Chris) 300 Seconds is coming. This cryptic reference will be explained soon.

... "And I learned that if you try real hard anything is possible in the end!" says me.
"It's too bad we didn't try then," says Giblets.

The electorate is just like politicians in Congress (0.00 / 0)
They support environmental legislation so long as it doesn't cost too much, with varying thresholds of pain that they are willing to accept.

The Official Announcement (4.00 / 4)
Was over facebook, via a status change, about a month or so before the 2008 election. Needless to say, many people missed that one. We hadn't been meaning to hide it, but there were other things going on.

We'll do a post about it more officially just before we leave for the event. The part of the festivities we're really looking forward to is the vacation afterwards, the 10 days of loafing around, no laptops to be seen anywhere, with no one expecting us to be anywhere in particular. Mmmm, vacation.

Politics is the art of the possible, but that means you have to think about changing what is possible, not that you have to accept it in perpetuity.

Natasha and I are getting married on July 18th, so I thought it would be appropriate to write a Morning No together, and you might be seeing this more often (Chris).

Congratulations to you both. I wish you a long, happy and healthy marriage!
