Morning No: No Refunds

Video probably not work safe. Unless you're a blogger. Also, good morning.

- Greenpeace activists have occupied 4 Italian coal-fired power plants in a protest over climate inaction timed to coincide with the G8 meeting. Totally bad*ss.

- Society to women: first, we'll publicly humiliate you, then we'll watch the footage over and over again, then we'll call you a pervert. (Via.)

- Thankfully, now Canada will be dead last in emissions control, and we'll be able to be slightly less embarassed by our fecklessness.

- So, that trade secrets theft case being brought against the former Goldman Sachs employee turns out to be regarding a proprietary algorithm that "could" be used to unfairly manipulate markets. Could we have our explanation for the recent, fabulous success of the vampire squid that might as well be our national mascot by now?

- There's been another drone attack in Pakistan, which killed 10 insurgents. Or seven, but they'd really have better been insurgents.

- The Economist seems pleased to note that corporations are paying less tax these days than they did in the 1990s and that they haven't been hit with the sorts of increases ordinary taxpayers have been.

- Ahmadinejad is moving forward with a plan that will cut Iran's energy subsidies, though apparently there would still be assistance available for low-income households.

- If it's true that it's possible to create sperm from bone marrow, would you technically need a male donor? Hmmm.

- The Amazon River is 11 million years old.

- Evidence has been found of a water cycle on Mars, though the Exodus Earth series reminds us that if we were to warm the planet up enough to be comfortable for us, any surface waters would be extremely salty.

Dunno, I tend to think that the bumbling niavete is attributed to this teacher (0.00 / 0)
rather than predatory exhibitionism is not without its sexist undercurrent. It's incredibly hard for me to believe that she "accidentally" inserted an erotic photo of herself into an end of the year montage for 11 year olds. How does that happen, realistically? Which is not to say the reaction was any less exploitative or effed up, just to say that Lance Mannion's rush to attribute guilelessness to this woman reads to me as objectionable in its own right.

Unless she's nuts ... (0.00 / 0)
Who wants to lose their job in this economy? I hear you, and we agree more often than not as far as I've seen, but I don't buy someone taking that kind of risk on purpose.

If you want to posit "predatory exhibitionism" (0.00 / 0)
You'll need to suggest a motive. Intentionally putting such pictures on a CD sent to parents of the children (the presumed targets of your alleged "crime"), then calling around trying to get them back does not seem like the actions of a "predator".

Accidentally inserting pictures is relatively easy with digital pictures, which tend to give numerical filenames.

Since objectivity in journalism is a red herring, and the way the days stories are told is everything to any competent Editor, (0.00 / 0)
Then I have to say "No News" is good news.

Juxtaposing for example Canada's minority Conservative government (and their enablers* the Liberal Party of Canada) with the (courageous exciting exhilarating informative poetic peaceful . . .) actions of Greenpeace in Italy made my morning!

*There's that alcoholics metaphor again, with drunk on selling out to the corporations Conservative minority government (they reduced taxes on Canada's world famously rich and profitable banks to a marginal rate of 15% from the old level of 24%, which was already lower than the US's) is made possible only by repeated, "thats OK they don't mean it really," 'votes of confidence' by the Michael Ignatieff lead Liberals.

Yes Canada is in very very sorry shape right now. But yes brave, insightful, clever and dedicated activists are bringing the message of zero carbon right into the closed meetings of the worlds powerful.

Yay.

Good for Greenpeace! (0.00 / 0)
And jeers to both the asshole who sent the video of the teacher to the local television station, and to the station for broadcasting it.  What asses.

Yeah, but there's REALLY bad news, too: (0.00 / 0)

If this doesn't make you crazy, you're already crazy.
