Chris And Natasha Are Coming Back

Along with Ian Welsh I have been sitting in while Chris and Natasha got married and took some time off.  But soon they will be coming back.

The blog is still here, largely undamaged.  I only got in a few comment fights and managed not to insult anyone (too much).  I hope I was able to inspire some thinking.  I know that the people here got me thinking about a number of new things.

My home blog is Seeing the Forest and as I said at the beginning of my sentence time here that blog has been going on for seven years and a few days.

If you are a progressive idea person and want to follow some of the ideas that have been worked on here, please visit both the Campaign for America's Future blog, Blog for OurFuture, and the Commonweal Institute's blog, Uncommon Denominator.  BOTH blogs have a LOT going on.  (But ALWAYS come back to Open Left.)  If you want to get on their mailing lists, the Campaign For America's Future's email signup is right on their front page, and the Commonweal Institute's signup page is here.  (And just like Open Left, both organizations need your donations to help them get progressive ideas out to the mainstream!)

I guess I'll be out of here for now. Of course, something might trigger another rant at any time, and I still have the keys...

As I occasionally say at Seeing the Forest: Watch your backs!

I enjoyed your stuff Dave (0.00 / 0)
I was peripherally aware of Seeing the Forrest, and used to read Perlstein at CAF but not familiar with your work.  I like the bold questions and the bigger liberal ideas you take on.

Great job (4.00 / 1)
We definitely need people pushing the envelope - asking us to think about things even if they seem politically unfeasible right now.  A great deal of the strength of the conservative movement came from doing that for decades.

Bravo.

Politics is the art of the possible, but that means you have to think about changing what is possible, not that you have to accept it in perpetuity.

I even thing I found Seeing the Forest through Incoming Signals. I think I was visiting it before I stumbled onto Daily Kos. I think I bounced between your site and Crooked Timber. Never getting the two straighten out in my mind.

Thanks Again

Is whether you nail that question about Adlai Stevenson's gubernatorial administration for us at pub trivia.

Seriously, thanks for helping us out, Dave. See you in Pittsburgh.

I've enjoyed reading your posts here. I appreciate that your writing is not as constrained by Realpolitik as are many of us that have focused primarily on election-watching before 2009. I find that I agree with just about everything you post, but it is still thought-provoking. I will definitely be checking out your home blog.

The last month or so of national politics has been tough to watch. The limits of electoral victory are starting to sink in. It seems like the break in GOP hegemony has given us a chance to look in and see the face of power with it's mask off, and it has been ugly and disturbing to see the lengths to which hegemonic power will go to protect its interest if a real threat is perceived. I guess we should pat ourselves on the back for at least being threatening, but it is a long way from real change.
