Major course correction needed at the White House

Over the last couple of weeks, President Obama seems to have fallen flat on his face and seems unable to get up.  His approval ratings have fallen from the high 50's to around 50%, a dangerous area this early in any President's term.

Obama does have a chance to turn this around, but will he?  Perhaps when Congress gets back in session and back to work on healthcare, Obama's ratings will rebound.

Obama's approval rating is critical for the 2010 midterm elections.  I have calculated that if Obama's rating would have to fall to 36% for Democrats to lose control of the House(40 seats).   That is clearly possible if Obama cannot convince American's that the economy is the right track or if healthcare reform fails and the Democratic base deserts him.

Obama needs to shape up and take charge much like Ronald Reagan did in the early 1980's.  His base stuck with him because he refused to fold to Democrats on any issue in his first couple of years.
