Another BAD Nomination

My letter sent to the White House, in response to David Corn's article; is now also an open letter, here and elsewhere.

Mr. President, with all due respect, HOW COULD YOU?

ProgressiveMews :: Another BAD Nomination
How could you nominate a lobbyist for deregulation, to a TOP position for regulation? I thought you were going to STOP the poisonous cycle of putting lobbyists into government positions; not that this is the first time you broke that promise.

Worse than that, I thought you understood how important it is right now, in the middle of an economic crisis, our need is for serious regulation of the markets. And yet you nominate somebody from a company who took advantage of deregulation to CON Americans for financial gain?

Do you truly believe THIS is the guy for the job? That THIS is the right person to hold his former peers accountable and change the way he himself has done business?

I think NOT.  How about choosing somebody with a history of busting criminals like your nominee instead? Please don't tell me "it takes one to know one" this time either. Nor do I want to hear this was an expedient choice, because the LAST thing we need is to usher in a BAD choice. No matter how I look at this, I can't see it as anything other than completely unacceptable!

Since I cannot believe you will take back this grievous mistake, I'm writing you to let you know I'm contacting members of Congress to let them know I want them to vehemently oppose Scott O'Malia, and that I am also going to make sure everybody I know does the same. I'm determined to widely expose this incredibly poor nomination, and I have no doubt that all who hear about it will feel exactly the same way too.

Here's to better days,
Heather

PS - I sincerely wish you all the best of luck in creating the new badly needed consumer protection agency; but I have to say this nomination pours a liberal amount of doubt into my mind as to the real effectiveness it will actually have if it comes to fruition.
