New Corzine Poll and Echoes of the GOP Health Care Plan

The new Q-poll has Gov. Corzine down by only four points- a narrowing from 10 points from an earlier poll this month. This combined with the Democracy Corps poll last week (1 point down) is good news. The overall race has been narrowing for awhile:

Chris Christie, who recently said insurance companies should not be forced to cover mammograms for women in their 20s because those who get breast cancer "are an exception", has his worst favorability of the campaign in the poll- 38% favorable, 38% unfavorable. New Jersey law mandates that health insurance companies operating in the state are required to provide a minimum level of care- including covering mammograms- and Chris Christie, facing a right-wing primary challenger earlier this year, proposed letting insurance companies opt out of those.

It reminds me of what Rep. Alan Grayson said on the House floor yesterday, outlining the GOP health care plan- "Don't get sick. And if you do get sick, die quickly!"

If you haven't taken action for Corzine yet, we're in the stretch run on the campaign. You can watch and post this ad on your Facebook and Twitter account, send around to your friends in the state, and sign up to help defeat Christie and insurance company backers here.

Blue Jersey posted a graphic taken from voter panels of unaffiliated votets by Monmouth University.  Monmouth, or at least th eposter, said that the most common favorable world used for Corzine was trying.  They were way wrong.  I couldn't even find trying on their picture.  The word "Democrat" showed up nice and large for Corzine.  That's what is keeping him in the race.  Nearly as large was the word Governor.

Christie, otoh, did not have the word Republican although Bush showed up in relatively small letters.  If this is Republican vs. Democrat Corzine wins (or at least Christie loses).

As a Jersey resident, it's much easier to dig up negatives for Christie, the most disgusting, corrupt, hypocrite to be a major party nominee for Governor or Senator in NJ in the last 50 years (that's saying a lot).  It's much harder to dig up positives for Corzine.

Personally, I think Corzine has been a poor Governor and hints at a lot worse but I will have no problem voting for him to deny Christie.  I suspect that will be the prevailing view come election day.

That was me. I certainly agree that we think "liberal" and "Democrats" are positive words (maybe "businessman" and "governor" are positive too?), but I was considering them neutral for purpose of a panel of unaffiliated voters.  I don't know if they hate both "liberals" and "conservatives," love them, or whatever.

I think you just missed the word "republican," I'd say it's quite large. In any case, it's plain from the polls that Christie has been going down since his peak in the summer, and that's good news.

The images are here:

Anyway, I imagine looking at the first word an online panel of unaffiliared writes is not the be-all and end-all of analyzing the race.

I think it's positive.  I didn't think the sample would.  Given the choice of Democrat or Republican post-Bush Democrat would seem positive.

I'm not so sure about businessman this year (especially given Wall Street businessman).

Republican plus Norcross (0.00 / 0)
Large and I missed it.  Looked for it, too.  The large taxes was what showed up.

Big news today.  Codey is being pushed aside in favor of a Norcross puppet.  Whether Christie or Corzine win (and this helps Christie a lot), Norcross is now the second most powerful politician in the state.  He doesn't even deliver big margins.  Hudson and Essex are what carry the state.  Bergen also matters.  Camden is an embarrassment and an albatross.  I wish Corzine had been successful in squeezing him out after Norcross's failed power play.

Christie's failure to get Norcross is a major indictment.  He needed him around.  He was a continuing symbol of corruption and didn't deliver votes as a compensation.
