Defend Alan Grayson

Open Lefters, it is time to dig into your pockets and show your support for Representative Alan Grayson by giving to his campaign today.

Representative Grayson was one of the Better Democrats on Open Left who defeated a Republican incumbent in 2008. Now, Republicans are drafting a resolution to condemn him for saying the Republican health care plan was "don't get sick, and, if you do, die quickly." Here is the video:

Republicans are claiming this is the equivalent of Democrats condemning Joe Wilson, even though Wilson broke House rules with his comments, and Grayson did not. Donate to Alan Grayson now.

Further, at least four Republicans have said, on the floor of the House, that the Democratic health care plan will kill people. So, it's OK if you are a Republican, I guess. Donate to Alan Grayson now.

Democratic leaders, of course, are already encouraging Grayson to apologize. They didn't bother doing the same when those Republicans made their remarks. Thanks, guys. Donate to Alan Grayson now.

Matt Stoller, who co-founded Open Left and now works for Alan Grayson, is being directly attacked in this firestorm, too. Some Democratic "allies" are even leaking his private emails to the Politico. Nice. Good to know we have such friends on Capitol Hill. Donate to Alan Grayson now.

Republican lies, double-standards for progressives, backstabbing Democrats, Congressional leaders who won't stand by us-if we don't stand up for one of our own at a time like this, no one will. We have to defend our champions when the right-wing smear machine comes after them, and Democrats help that smear machine out. Donate to Alan Grayson now, and defend a Better Democrat who made it to Congress.

Update (Adam): The NRCC just launched this website, www.alandisgrayson.com, attacking Alan Grayson and his record. They're all piling on, so now is critical to have his back.

If Grayson = Wilson (4.00 / 4)
Then I expect to see Rep. Grayson all over TV "news" for the next week and to see his comments repeated over and over again for even longer.

No apologies needed.

perhaps this is actually happening? (0.00 / 0)
The segment on CNN with Grayson has raised the visibility of this issue and now the media monster may have been provoked.

Your post is very much to the point (4.00 / 5)
I'm convinced. I heard Alan Grayson's comments on Ed Schultz' radio show this morning. They were really great. I had forgotten that Matt was working for Grayson until I read this post. That makes it even better!

On apologies: never apologize to someone who is goading you. I remember working with a dog trainer about 12 years ago when our dog was less than a year old (with major discipline problems.) The trainer told us: "Never apologize to the dog." I think the same principle should apply here: "Never apologize to the minority party."

that's a good facebook group name (0.00 / 0)
Never Apologize To The Dog

beauty.

we could put that on a button around suitable faces and send one to every Democrat in DC...

not everything worth doing is profitable. not everything profitable is worth doing.

Today he doubled down - outstanding! (4.00 / 1)
So a big STFU to Rep. Larson, another Moderate/wimp who's letting everyone know he thinks Grayson should have bowed down and apologized.

so tired... (4.00 / 1)
I am so tired of the vast inconsistancy between what Republicans can say and do (death panels, "you lie!", contemplate military coups, etc) without reprimand, vs what Democrats say and do that unleashes firestorms and the circular firing squad.

I have just about lost all hope that the system is salvagable, or even worth saving.

alternative means of support? (0.00 / 0)
grayson is not yet a co-sponsor to hr 676 (single payer, expanded and improved medicare for all) and i don't send $$ to any congressperson who doesn't show support for universal healthcare.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/...

is there any other way to support rep grayson (and stoller) instead of sending $$?

alternatively, maybe grayson can be asked to cosponsor hr 676, or perhaps there is another bill that provides universal healthcare that he supports? any additional info (or corrections to my understanding) would be very welcome. thanks!

I'm not holding my breath for the professionally outraged to condemn Republicans for their various "death panel" statements.

I thought it was funny... (4.00 / 2)
When I saw the report on it I just thought it was funny, and figured Republicans would flip out about it... but who cares about them, right?

But Democrats?  What the hell is wrong with our caucus?  I donated just to try and shut up our own Democratic "leaders" about it... truly pathetic.

Sigh.

I'm so sick of this crap.

Grayson isn't going gentle in that good night... (4.00 / 1)

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) mocked Republicans Wednesday who demanded he apologize for saying that they want people who get sick to "die quickly."
"I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven't voted sooner to end this holocaust in America," Grayson said on the House floor.

I'll donate to Grayson (4.00 / 1)
as soon as he ditches the backstabbing Democrats and becomes an independent or affiliates with a 3rd party.  I might have donated had the Dem leadership stood its ground, but this tears it.  I absolutely refuse to financially support the spineless unprincipled piece of sh*t Democrats any longer.

Where did you get this information, Chris?  Every article I can find says Dem leaders have not asked him to apologize.

...but, according to Grayson, he talked to her and she's backed off...

You refuse to support someone because Democratic leadership doesn't support him. (4.00 / 2)
Brilliant!

Good job empowering the Democratic leadership for being so wimpy!  If only other were as brave and thoughtful as you.

Slightly OT (0.00 / 0)
but DKOS has a post about a fundraising letter from Joe Sestak and the number of times it asks for money.

Sestak is a great guy, but the e-mail as well as this post brings to my mind my nightmare: that in the end blogsphere will become, or perhaps already is, nothing but a fund raising device.

I don't think that would ever be the objective of anyone here, but in many of the e-mails I get from campaigns it is pretty obvious they really don't give a damn what I think, or about trying to listen to anyone.  They are all about raising money for DC based consultants, and its makes me feel a bit like a mark, particularly when I think of the millions people like Joe Trippi have made.

Maybe no one else minds, but I really only need one request to donate.

This is not an issue here, and I will donate to Grayson, but the fundraising stuff can be over the top.

EVERYTHING is a potential source for fund-raising and profit. Everything.
