Morning No: No Perpetual Motion

- Wow. More economists come out of the closet as uninformed climate denialists. What do you expect from a discipline that routinely rejects the basic principles of thermodynamics?

- For other climate-related developments, here's a six page summary of the Kerry-Boxer climate bill, courtesy of the nice folks at 1Sky. I'm already superficially happier with it than the Lieberman-Warner bill, go figure, but there are reasons for optimism. I'm (not alone in being) very cheered to see that the EPA will have more authority to regulate carbon in the Senate version.

- The commons turn out not to be inevitably tragic.

- Bad blood between a local hospital and insurers in New Jersey has led to the insurance companies scaring patients into leaving the hospital during necessary stays.

- Airline pilots in the US not only end up on food stamps, they may get warning letters for taking sick days.

- In Washington State, local Republicans are doing their best to drown government in a bathtub, and local journalists are doing their best to help them out by refusing to look at the facts. As above, so below, as they say.

- In Tarrant County Texas, Sheriff Dee Anderson just said no to Tasers because he was worried they might cause an unecessary death. More like this, please.

- Iraq's elections are in doubt and the bombings continue.

- Some of the bills signed and vetoed by Gov. Schwarzenegger as he presides over the disintegration of the world's 8th largest economy.

- The Washington Post is hosting a discussion about whether young gays are coasting on the struggles of the previous generation. I have no basis for an opinion on this, and point it out to note with some amusement that it sounds kind of like the conversation that was happening in the feminist community during the primary.

- What coal plants scrub from smokestacks ends up in the water, including a range of toxic heavy metals and radioactive substances poorly regulated by existing laws. Just another good reminder that carbon dioxide isn't the only problematic byproduct of coal-fired power generation.

I gotta say... (4.00 / 1)
...I hope we get to the point where younger gays can coast on the struggles of the previous generation.  I didn't put all that work into the gay rights movement just so that the next generation would have to do it all over again.

I probably have better things to do with my time than this.

Washington State Dimocratic Party - Ossified (0.00 / 0)
and Flat Footed, but, a great club to belong to for the politically pathetic, like patty murray, maria cantwell, gregroire, gary locke, ron sims, dwight pelz, frank chopp ...

like anywhere, our state level pathetics worked really really hard to get to the top, and, just like at dinosaur company like boeing or microsoft, one of hte MOST important things to do while working your way up was to NOT rock the boat.

The campaign against selfish slimeball tim eyeman's right wing lies is your typical PATHETIC campaign which doesn't work, but, will suck up all the money and all the time of the hard working stiffs who make up the backbone of the party -- all so a bunch of big donors can feed the usual worthless consultants.

I do NOT blame mean pit bulls for being mean, I don't blame lying stealing fascists for stealing and lying. I do blame the Wimp-O-Crats for being politically pathetic sacks of shit.

maybe grayson wants to move to Seattle?

RMM, we're doing everything we possibly can within the party here in Washington, and you know it.  Give me time, I'm working on it.

If Democrats have a pre-911 mentality, Republicans have a pre-July 4th mentality.
