that the whole media establishment are idiots.  Governments in other parts of the world are successfully shutting down the media as we post this.  Main stream media hasn't done much to cover the story, leading one to believe that they think it won't happen to them.

The right of free speech is very precious to all of us.  Obama seems to have a lot of fawning media that will obey and any command that he wishes, so why should he care?  Fox News is a very small player in this field.  Why should he undertake the effort to marginalize Fox?  He needs to be doing presidential things.  Let the rest of us determine that they are morons.  He is playing into Fox's hands and driving up their ratings by pointing them out.  Leno quipped that Obama was sending another 40000 troops to battle Fox.  When presidents get to be the butts of jokes things generally don't get better. (Watched that with a couple of presidents)

Hugo is shutting down media outlets in Venezuela.  Solmalia's government, what there is of it, is shutting down media outlets.  The point is, that it can be done and rather quickly under the guise of truthfulness.  At that point we all lose.

People act as though Fox and Scaife and the Daily Standard and the Washington Times are the problem. Pretty much the whole media is in the tank for an undramatic, unexpressed form of neoliberalism/neoconservativism

Yes, the worst thing about Fox is not that a small minority believe their propaganda. (4.00 / 1)

It's that Fox makes the rest of the corporate media seem more credible. I see liberals and progressives everywhere citing CNN, ABC, NBC, etc. as legitimate news organizations in comparison to Fox, but as Tapper says, they see Fox as a sister operation. Certainly Fox are more blatant, but all the major "news" media are inherently corrupt and working to manufacture our consent.

This is a fight the White House can win if they don't let the corporate media score it. They aren't going to go after one of their own, especially an empire the size and power of Murdoch's.

As for reporters, are we enabling a bad animal by appearing on Fox? I'd appear on Fox and have many times. I'd do it again. It's a big audience, and while there's a range of bias, so what?

That's self-professed journalist Marc Ambinder citing the fact that Fox have a "big audience" as justification for going on and granting them legitimacy. The Ambinders and Jake Tappers need Fox to boost their careers and pad their wallets.

If there was any liberal thought at all in the corporate media, blogs like this one (my favorite) would have much less traffic. But given what the corporate media has become, with a few recent shows and a few publications as the exception, there is just nowhere to get true information but the intertubes.

At least concerning finantial issues our national media has been corrupted beyond being believable, and is just hurray for the rich and to hell with the public. Fox is the worst of this sold out group, and won the right to lie during "news" reporting by decision of the supreme court!

The president bringing attention to this ugly state of affairs is refreshing. I hope he can have a positive effect. If not, the corporate media will continue to lose  market, as more and more of the brainwashed masses realise the truth of being misled.
