Last week, in conjunction with CREDO Action, the Open Left community raised over $12,000 to run advertisements on the Senate health care merger process. The ad told Senator Reid and President Obama that we are counting on them to include a public option in the merged, that there are enough votes for the public option, to pass the Senate, and that we will not accept process based excuses.

The ads ran in Roll Call and The Hill, as well as in the Washington Post, where we ran geo-targeted ad to D.C. residents who focus on health care news. For a process this shadowy, the idea was to target political insiders and let them know the grassroots understand the state of play.

I wanted you to see that your donations are making a difference in this fight. Our message is reaching into the beltway, and we are getting closer to victory. As part of the next steps, either later tonight or tomorrow I should have a much more detailed, and narrowly targeted, list of House members to whip on the public option.

With another version like:

Make the Public Option Happen
We Have the Votes
No Excuses

And are you tracking click-through rates? Are Google Analytics installed on the landing page so you can benchmark bounce rate and conversion?

What's the point in doing this? We need to get smart about building our collective knowledge about what works for advancing progressive causes through the online channel. You know the Republicans are doing this. They have business training.

I spoke to Rothman's office today: they confirmed that he is definitely voting the "robust" public option in the House.

... if this has generated any attention from these insiders in the form of a response or other hand-wringing?

Also, I'd be interested to see if any liberal Senators or liberal MSM starts to pick up this talking point.

Just in from a leading Illinois Dem advocate who is encouraging phone calls to the 4 Rep's health care staffers TODAY:

Bean: Liz Jurinka 202-225-3711

Halvorson: Kyle Chapman 202-225-3635

Foster: Sandy Sussman 202-225-2976

Lipinski: Eric Lousten 202-225-5701

The writer goes on to analyze their positions:

I just called (4.00 / 1)

Asked for the staffer but they declined to connect me to him bc of not being in her district. They offered to connect me to Mark Kirk.

When I asked what her position is he said she's still considering the bills. Her website, last updated Oct 9, has the "draft bill" in pdf and html, plus a Section-by-Section Analysis.

At Bean's office I left a voice mail for Liz Jurinka (pronounced Yurinka, btw).

I was not able to speak directly with the health care staff persons for Foster and Lipinski, but they took my name and my input and thanked me for calling.
