( - promoted by Daniel De Groot)

First update on the fundraiser: as of 6:30 p.m. eastern, 82 contributors have donated $5,572.99!

This is a great start, and will cover another 56.5 days of our operating expenses.  In order to last until May, we need to cover another 126 days worth.

Please, if you value the information we provide, the campaigns in which we engage, and the analysis we produce, contribute to Open Left today.  We work for you, and we can't work without you.

Update: Over 64 days covered now.  Just five donors away from 100, too.  Over one-third of the way there!

Another donation on top of the monthly give I do with my credit card -- which I highly recommend if you want to ensure your donations provide OL a revenue stream rather than a one-off inflow. Also, click on the ads at OL to show your support. This matters to advertisers a lot. As I've said before, OL keeps me sane -- way cheaper than valium.

thanks so much Jeff (4.00 / 1)
And if we are a form of self-medication, I certainly hear that. Probably go crazy without my soapbox. :)

This site is an invaluable resource at so many levels. I cite and link to this place all the time on our local Democratic listserv -- there are A LOT of good, strong, progressive Democrats out there who have barely tipped their toes into the blogosphere, and my #1 personal political priority is to fix that. The less CNN influences the Democratic rank and file, the better.

Plus, it was nice to be part of the Championship Trivia Team at Netroots Nation this past summer...

In for the repeat next year?

Planning on it! (4.00 / 2)

I just hope the Dems in DC give us all a reason to be in a good mood in Vegas that week...

Happily done (4.00 / 2)
Thank Chris and everyone at Open Left. BTW, if you're in touch with Matt Stoller tell him we all say hi and miss him here. He got a great gig hooking up with Grayson.

Thanks so much Steve (4.00 / 1)
I do talk with Matt from time to time, actually. Losing him was a big loss for us, but a big gain for Congress.  Grayson's performance so far has been remarkable!

There are many blogs, but only one Open Left.

While other blogs are based on one person's efforts, or a cacophonous stream of epithets and shout downs, Chris, P. Rosenberg, Mike and Dave continue to inspire dialog and intellectual excellence.

The MYDD folks will remember how bloggers Crashed the Gates and led an Uprising that turned the tide against the right and led to the election of Barack Hussein Obama and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.

The fight is far from over: in addition to the perennial battle for the limited attention span of the electorate, and the glacial intertia of the Establishment, there is the challenge we wake up to every single day; how do we best live in an unprecedented and miraculous world?

For the price of a dinner and a movie you can support these fine people: take the 5 minutes to click the link, grab your wallet, and chip in.

Wow--thanks! (4.00 / 1)
Floored by your words Paul. Thanks so much, and I hope to see you around here for a long time.

the Raven Brooks tweet, but I still don't know what the #p2 hashtag means or where it came from!

Means relating to progressive politics. Don't know where it came from though.

I'm super duper broke (0.00 / 0)
but if y'all are still writing this great blog when I get out of law school, I promise that my donations will get a lot more impressive.

Also - just for fun - what would you do with $120,000 ? (4.00 / 3)
I am on occasion, in the room with some pretty high level donors, and have been able to on occasion, push some big dollars towards groups I love.

I've never really thought of OpenLeft as a political not profit before, but it sort of is.

What would y'all do with an extra $10k / month for a year?
What kind of qualitative changes would come about?

What's my elevator pitch going to be?

I'm in. I wish it could have been more... n.t (4.00 / 1)

do we have a repeating donation function? or do we do it manually? (0.00 / 0)
