Talk Me Down: I think I want the HCR bill to fail

So as I understand it:

There will be mandates
There will not be full subsidies
The subsidies will be based on the comical federal poverty line
There aren't cost controls of pharmaceuticals
There aren't strong caps on premiums
If my state fucks up and elects a Republican Governor (this is Maryland, it has happened), I would have to buy from a private company

And that's not even considering the ridiculous "MUST PRESERVE HYDE" language.

Why would I want this to succeed, exactly?

And that's the House bill. (0.00 / 0)
The Senate bill is worse.

You're not going to get me to talk you down.  I've been saying for a while now that we should just kill the bill.

The anti-rescission language in the house bill is also bad.  It allows for exceptions in the case of fraud, but does not specify how that's to be dealt with, so the insurance company could just rescind the coverage, citing fraud, and then it would be up to the individual to take it to court, with all the attendant legal fees that would entail, assuming the person rescinded would be willing to spend years in litigation in the first place.

I'm sure that if anyone thinks I'm wrong, rather than arguing the point, they'll be more than happy to support an amendment that says insurance companies can't rescind until after fraud has been proven in court.  After all, if that's how one believes it already works, then there's no reason to oppose an amendment which states it explicitly.

(Then we'll switch it at the last moment for an amendment that removes the fraud exception.  What's good for Stupak....)
