Obama Fights von Spakovsky

I'm with Josh Marshall.  Good for Obama.  I wonder where Clinton is.  Oh yeah, she's busy not signing the American Freedom pledge which controversially asserts the following.

We are Americans, and in our America we do not torture, we do not imprison people without charge or legal remedy, we do not tap people's phones and emails without a court order, and above all we do not give any President unchecked power.

I pledge to fight to protect and defend the Constitution from assault by any President.

UPDATE: Ok, Clinton has signed two days after Obama.  Oops.

I agree, this is good stuff. (0.00 / 0)
I hope he keeps up with it.
It's the kind of battles he should be fighting.
Post-partisanship is fine and dandy for a general election, but it shouldn't mean ceding everything to the other guys.

I'm glad to see (0.00 / 0)
that Obama's jumped out in front on this.  Perhaps the single thing that has pissed me off about Congressional Democrats during the past 6 1/2 years is how often they acquiesce on batshit crazy political and judicial nominations, and I was worried it was going to happen again here.  This certainly makes me think more positively of Obama as a partisan; sometimes, being "post-partisan" is just being a pushover.  He needs some of Hillary's "screw the GOP" guts if he's going to be the nominee.

Matt, I'm also glad to see you give credit where credit was due.  I don't have a horse in this race, yet, but I also don't despise any of our candidates and I've felt at times that your criticism for Obama was on the venomous side.  Seeing posts like this from you make your criticism of Obama more palatable and less personal.  Keep up the good work.

Less for the lack of venom about Obama as for the venom towards Clinton. Equal opportunity contempt with a megaphone, dealt out towards anybody who's failing to live up to their promise, is the single best tool for trying to reform the congresscritters.

Clinton just signed the American Freedom Pledge today, only two days after Obama.
