- But seriously, it is Earth Day, which Vice President Biden is honoring through the announcement of a neighborhood energy retrofit program to be piloted in 25 communities.

- Hey, would you look at that? It's also still Confederate History Month, as hosted by Frederick Douglass.

- Courtesy the BBC, a first-time voters' guide and some commentary on the state of the UK elections: "A lot of students and members of the public see [politicians] as comedy figures rather than to be taken seriously."

- The daily pundit round-up.

- Vatican promotes bishop who blames the Devil for child abuse and rape suits against the church.

- There's concern among Humboldt Co. pot growers that legalization might put their local growing industry out of business.

- New Jersey voters reject school budgets, flip this generation of students the Bird.

- GM repays the government, will continue to make useful, if problematic, goods, unlike the finance industry, which will continue to mostly make poverty.

- Shorter, this discussion about frivolous female consumption: Someday, it would be interesting to see the reaction to an article about how silly men are for buying dozens of pricey video games when they play, like, three on a consistent basis, how selfish they are for not using their shopping time to buy clothes for their kids or hunting down a perfect interview suit for their female partner, or how irresponsible they are for spending so much of their food dollar on snacks and beer. But that article isn't going to appear in a major paper, not being nearly as entertaining to the masses as mocking women for doing the majority of household shopping.

- Seventeen years worth of data says that corn is more energy efficient as human food than as animal feed or processed biofuel. This is Natasha's complete lack of surprise.

- Why there's no money in selling fresh produce, which is the stuff we should be eating.

- I don't believe in evolution any more than I believe in flowers.

- Light therapy offers hope for severe insomnia.

NJ vote (0.00 / 0)
Overall, the voting was close.  About 20% of local school budget elections were decided by 52% or less of the vote.  That's over 100 municipalities according to PolitickerNJ.  In this town, both the Republican and Democratic parties campaigned against the school budget with the Democrats going door-to-Democratic door in a heavily Republican town.  The budget failed by 12 votes and Christie is crowing.

Meanwhile a banner headline in a Sunday paper screamed in biggest type "Cops Avoid Budget Axe."  We have too many cops here and they cost too much money with incestuous spending topping the list.  A cop who testified against the town and cost it $2.2 million in a law suit promoted to lieutenant and given a do-nothing PR job (in a town of 7,500).  His brother-in-law is on the town council.  Another cop pursuing a months long vendetta that saw him shot and long term disabled when he pulled into the police parking lot and left with no backup to have a shootout in his own unmarked car.  That one will cost millions, too.  We have two and a half times the per capita manpower of neighboring towns and these idiots can;t solve simple burglaries.

It's not how much we spend; it's how we spend it.  No maintenance.  No schools.  No taxes on the wealthy and corporation and police and prisons to the max. Time to reshape the priorities and time here to fight Christie to the max. If the papers weren't totally in his corner and the loudmouths we'd be in better shape.

Natasha ~ I loved your riposte on the male vs. female shopping issue - Zing! Right you are about the msm, too - they'll cover your perspective the day they give as much coverage to the good-governance movement as they do the Tea Baggers.

Hint: it will be a very cold day in a very warm place ;)
