give us some rough estimates.  it's important and regardless of the source you use, they are far far far higher than the u.s. troop deaths, which is important.

sometimes quick and dirty works better than leaving it out altogether, but your post, your call.

Iraq Body Count (http://www.iraqbodycount.org/database/):

7,419 violent civilian deaths through April 30, 2003
97,987 violent civilian deaths since May 1 2003

Totals comparing various counts, with source and date of estimate (Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C... which will give a sense of where the Iraq Body Count numbers stack up compared to others (date of estimate is important in comparing!):

Iraq Family Health Survey 151,000 violent deaths. June 2006

Lancet survey 601,027 violent deaths out of 654,965 excess deaths. June 2006

Opinion Research Business survey 1,033,000 violent deaths as a result of the conflict. August 2007

Associated Press 110,600 violent deaths April 2009

Iraq Body Count 95,888 - 104,595 violent civilian deaths as a result of the conflict. April 2010"
