Many of you have rightly criticized Sen. Obama for failing to vote against Kyl-Lieberman's quasi-Iran war resolution and other no shows (or late shows) on critical issues.  And many of you have rightly praised Sen. Dodd's leadership on Habeas and FISA.

But today Dodd "pulled an Obama" and didn't show for a critical vote when it mattered.  The nomination of Judge Southwick.

Oldenburg :: Dodd fails to act or lead on Southwick
As other blogs have pointed out, now 5th Cir. Judge Southwick is really really bad and racist (see here, here, here, here, and here).

Sens. Dodd, Kennedy, and Boxer, all reliable votes against a person like Southwick didn't show for the cloture vote (62-35) or the confirmation vote, which was 59-38.

The difference is, Dodd is running on being a leader on issues of protecting the constitution while suggesting that folks like Obama and Clinton are too timid.  Well, Obama and Clinton voted against Southwick twice.  Where were you Dodd?

Out raising money from the same bankers you regulate
