Babble on, Babylon!  We're watching you!

It's that time of week, once again, and the question of the hour is: "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who can spot the most blathering idiot of them all?"

Once again, it COULD be you!  But only if you participate by entering your nomination in the comments below.

Last week's contest was won by The Big Hurt's nomination of Rahm Emanuel:

Rahm Emanuel modifies the English language

Given the opportunity to question her opponents directly, Braun jumped on Emanuel for some of the take-no-prisoners antics that earned him the nickname, "Rahmbo."
"It's been reported - in fact I've had a conversation at one point - with the congressman to whom you sent a dead fish. And you're reported in the New York Post as telling your workers to, `Take the Tampons out and get to work,' " Braun said.
"As a woman, this is really offensive. So, the question is, as a matter of temperament, how can you possibly do these kinds of things to people?"
Emanuel acknowledged that he has a "strong personality" because that'`s what's needed to stand up to clout-heavy special interests.
"When you're fighting the big banks to pass financial reform, you get a reputation. When you're fighting the insurance companies who are trying to prevent kids from getting health care, you get a reputation. When you're fighting the NRA who is trying to stop the Brady Bill and the assault weapon [ban] from happening, you get a reputation," he said.

Stand up? No, that's Stand with.

Can you do as well or better this week?  Only if you try!

Rules on the flip!

Paul Rosenberg :: Chattie Cathies
The Rules:

(A) We're looking for inane blather that is blissfully indifferent to the actual facts of the matter being commented on.  These are the "Chatty Cathy" Awards, not the "Archie Bunkers."  Of course, this doesn't exclude wingnut punditry, it's just that cluelessness is what we're looking for, more than hatefulness.  If you can find examples that combine both, though... I think you've got a real winner.

(B) You may nominate any pundit from the M$M-print, broadcast tv/radio or cable-or from any online extension or associated outfit.  (If this really catches on for some reason, I may decided to break the awards into separate categories at some point.) Nominations should include the name of the person nominated (preferably in the subject line), the outlet and date, an exact quote of what they said or wrote, and a link to where it can be found-original, transcript, or first-hand report (such as Media Matters).

(C) You may submit as many nominations as you want, but each must be in a separate comment.

(D) People vote for each nomination by giving recommendations.  There is no limit on how many recommendations you can give.

David Brooks praises Lieberman NY Times 1.20.11 (4.00 / 5)
Gag me:

It would be nice if voters made room for a few independents like this. There have been times, like during the health care debate, when I found Lieberman's independence befuddling and detached from any evident intellectual moorings. But, in general, he has shown a courageous independence of mind.

There are plenty of team players in government who do whatever the leader says. There are too few difficult members, who have complicated minds, unusual perspectives, the toughness to withstand the party-line barrages and a practical interest in producing results.

h/t to Sam Seder (where I first heard about this), and you can hear that audio clip here. As Seder notes, if Lieberman is such a morally upstanding guy with great character, how come we might not have gotten his vote on key bills had he lost his Chairmanship in the Dem Caucus? Since when do morally upstanding people act out of spite?

More takedowns at Salon (including link to Greenwald) here.

LOL! (4.00 / 1)
It's a difficult decision here.

The more widespread notion of Liebarman as "upstanding" is clearly delusional.  But Brooksie implicitly saying he has a "complicated mind", that's really priceless.

So, which is more ludicrous?

Oh, I know! (4.00 / 1)
The only thing that kept me from adding that part was to keep the blockquote space minimal so my comment wouldn't be too long.

And let's not underemphasize how Brooksie and Lie-berman certainly are simpatico on their particular brand of crazy "complicated mind". Remember last month when Brooksie so defied your attempt at meaningful analysis you basically had to abandon ship?

"Chattie Cathies" could easily be renamed "The Brooksies" as a recognition for lifetime achievement.

Bwahahahahahaha! (0.00 / 0)
Rahm Emanuel as someone who stands up to those with clout!  Hahaha!  What a laugh!

Charlie Cook (4.00 / 3)
Sorry for the late entry, but I just came across this...

Charlie Cook, National Journal: The Right Direction

Don't look now, liberal activists, but President Obama's pivot toward the center is paying off in higher public-approval numbers than he has seen in six months. For nearly two years, Democratic centrists watched as the newly elected president headed to the left. Not surprisingly, his poll numbers took a beating. But after Democrats suffered enormous losses at the ballot box in November, Obama turned back toward the middle.
