Man With Bomb Holding Clinton NH Office Hostage

Leave it to me to say that Hillary Clinton hasn't faced attacks as severe as Howard Dean about ten hours before her New Hampshire campaign office becomes a terrorist target for the right. A breaking and extremely disturbing story:

An armed man took people hostage Friday at a Hillary Clinton presidential campaign office in New Hampshire, police said.

The incident happened at about 1 p.m. Friday at 28 North Main St. in Rochester. Officials said that a man is holding people hostage at the office, but it is unclear how many people are being held.

There are several police officers positioned across the street from the office, crouched down behind cruisers with guns drawn, according to a reported at the scene.

This is very scary. Terrorism has always been a key tool of the right, and considering the hateful anti-Clinton emails I receive on a regular basis, I have little doubt that this comes from their ranks. I have received death threats over the years along these lines, myself. Almost everyone on the left has. I guess it is possible it isn't a politically motivated right-wing attack, but from the stuff I have seen and gone through I would be surprised if it wasn't.
I am going to go watch some TV. A Daily Kos diarist is live blogging:

Update_ Man with duct taped bomb on body/

UPDATE- Helicopters on scene

UPDATE- Two hostages- campaign workers
SWAT team is now there
Several blocks have been evacuated and shut down- no traffic

Man is in 40s, salt and pepper hair

I think I am going to vomit. And to think that it is the right-wing that is afraid of terrorism.

Our thoughts are with them on the inside (4.00 / 1)
Many of us have been in campaign offices -- to volunteer or just to nose around.  The staff and volunteers are often college students or recent grads, people who still believe that helping a campaign can change the world.

There's a sense of fun and camaraderie in those offices, a sense of openness and hope.

I can't imagine what those staffers or volunteers are feeling right now, but many of us are thinking of them and of all our friends whose lives on the campaign trail just changed.

The local office is one of those places where campaigns still feel safe, accessible, human-scale.  I would hate to see that change, to lose that little bit of innocence that remains in electoral politics.

Thoughts and Prayers... (0.00 / 0)
Prayer's go out to those poor campaign workers.  It's often a thankless job working on campaign's and for this to happen...  I hope and pray that this doesn't end badly.

Our Dime Understanding the U.S. Budget

Chris, he's a crackpot (0.00 / 0)
the right will disown him, like Rush howled about the left will blame us for Tim McVeigh.  SAdly this is a crackpot, with all his screws loose and yeah, may have been heavily influenced by certain propaganda.  But like KagroX emphasizes it's irresponsible for us to speculate on this person's motivations, the truth will come out, Fox news will twist it and my prayers go out to any hostages and my hope is that this ends non-violently.

Disown? maybe not (0.00 / 0)
They didn't disown Ruby Ridge, they made the FBI (who were admittedly a bit ham handed) into pure villains and the militia nuit job into pure victims and went after the FBI in Congress.  They really didn't disown the nuts in OK City either, shielding their ilk from proper surveillance post 9/11.  They used the Cubans in Miami to help prevent the vote count and install Bush as President.

No, the right will disown nothing.  Our congress critters disown MoveOn; they disown nothing and noone. Instead they will blame Hillary Clinton and the "Democrat Party" for sowing discord, etc., criticizing Bush, being mean to Cheney.

FIRST - We would need some evidence that the Right OWNS this situation.

What evidence can you offer that the hostage taker has any connection the "right"?
