There was a comment at that link that implied that the Edwards victory (4.00 / 2)

presaged, and made possible, the House suddenly growing balls and rejecting Bush on FISA and the Miers, Bolton contempt...the puke Rahm Emanuel nothwithstanding.

I agree with that.  Wynn's head on a stick should scare some pussy Democrats.  About fucking time.

For some reason, it seems that Obama has some pathological and deep-seated psychological need for Republicans to like him.  Seriously.  It's weird.

This morning, I typed up and snail-mailed short polite letters to Pelosi, Hoyer and Rahm Emanuel pointing out the Edwards/Wynn result and asking if they hear us now. I hope they get the message.

1) On what committees would Donna Edwards like to sit in the House?

2) Congress MUST pass 13 appropriations bills each year. Rarely do they pass all of them as individual bills. Instead Congress passes massive bundled omnibus bills with little transparency and less debate on the component items of these bills. What can an individual Congressperson do to change this and pass the 13 required appropriations as separate, coherent, transparent bills?

3) Donna Edwards. Great victory or greatest victory ever?

And I think that makes Ed Fallon's race in IA-03 even more important. They might be scared with Donna but they might just hope it was a fluke. If Ed Fallon get's out Bush Dog Boswell then that is a clear sign the voters want change and if you don't do something about it we'll kick you out!

Also Jill Tubman of Jack and Jill Politics has a good blog up on the blackroots role in the Edwards victory and potential other primaries against out of touch CBC members. This could get interesting.

Tracking the buzz on the trend into the general election (0.00 / 0)

I believe what Henry Champ says. The Edwards election was right in their back yard. Parts of her district inside the Beltway even. And the results weren't even close, it was a blowout, a landslide. Northern Virginia went mostly Democratic in 2006 and now the whole DC area is getting a change in leadership.

Really I think Edwards election helped give Democrats some resolve to let PAA expire. Its not so much about Donna but that a semi-liberal corporate friendly pol got his ass handed to him so smashingly by a principled, idealistic progressive. Capitol Hill has got to be wondering if its the harbinger of a bigger trend and what it means for the fall elections.

Throw in Gilchrest and the trend looks more polarization. Not so fast. Edwards has no serious opposition in the general. Harris faces a real battle against the Dem candidate Kratovil. Its going to be a bruising campaign. If Kratovil wins, the trend in Maryland will be more progressive, not more polarized.
