bringing Iraq back into the debate (0.00 / 0)
That's on my mind.

speaking of iraq (0.00 / 0)
that new pew research study is pathetic.
i write for a webzine that's doing a series, "don't mention the war" as a weekly reminder that we're still there.
also, i would be interested to know what you think about protest as a means of publicity- 5 years is next week..

Going to the convention (0.00 / 0)
If we go to the convention, wouldn't that cripple us?

Are there any chances of party stars--Pelosi, Gore, Edwards, Biden etc. all coming out and telling the trailing candidate to drop out?

Fantastic must-read article Clinton, the campaign, feminism. (0.00 / 0)

US elections 2008: Criticising pro-Obama women for not backing the female candidate hurts feminism more than a Clinton loss ever could

this race getting sickening (0.00 / 0)
i am so tired of axelrod and wolfson. I honestly think i hear the words "Mark Penn" twice as much as I hear "Iraq" in the news.

No Iraq outrage, no national consciousness of the war (4.00 / 1)
We contrast this debacle/quagmire to the Vietnam version of it--which filled the streets the protest. And people say: Well, we had a draft, middle-class white kids were going there against their will, dying and being maimed.

Does enlisting (in the all-professional military) make a service-person and her/his family that much less disgusted by mass violence, death, dismemberment, dislocation, etc.?
Isn't war still hell (especially an unjustified war of occupation?)

If I were Barack Obama I would stand up and say that there is no outrage because American troops and their loved ones are too loyal and courageous to complain. They are being misused by Bush-Cheney and they are simply bearing up under it. The national silence is greatly caused by their stoicism. They will not say "We have been exploited" because they believe they took an oath not to do so. All well and good, but someone has to say it on their behalf.

The problem is lack of expressed national outrage.
The cause is the troops themselves - they are too stoic.
The solution lies in someone else pointing out their exploitation and mistreatment--which I am here to do.

Would rhetoric like this instantly backfire?
