Iraq

I know that the media keeps insisting that nobody cares about Iraq anymore. But when I talk to voters in my district, they don't seem to have gotten the memo.  Instead, they almost always ask as one of their first two or three questions, "How are you going to end the war in Iraq?"

I thought it might be a good idea to give them a real answer.

Darcy Burner :: Iraq
In August at the Burn Bush town hall, we featured retired Major General Paul Eaton, who had been Petraeus's predecessor in Iraq. And I asked him, prior to the town hall, if he'd be willing to work with me to help craft a realistic, responsible plan to end the war.

He said yes.

So I reached out to other challengers and experts, and we've been working together to provide an answer to the question my voters (and voters in other districts) have been asking. Donna Edwards, Eric Massa, Chellie Pingree, Jared Polis, Tom Perriello, Larry Byrnes, George Fearing, Steve Harrison, and I are committed to responsibly ending this war -- and making sure we don't repeat the same mistakes again.

On Monday at 5:30 EST/2:30 PST we'll roll the the plan out at Take Back America in Washington DC. We're also going to stream it so you can participate even if you're not able to join us in person. I'll post more details on where it'll be streamed as we get them.

Damn Right. Way to Go. (4.00 / 2)
Thanks for the courage and leadership. The Iraq War is a cancer. We need a cure.

John McCain doesn't care about Vets.

Awesome! one question, off-topic (2.00 / 2)
What ever happened to that campaign aid of yours that was quoted in a paper as saying his job was to, in effect, distance your image from that of the blogosphere?

Can you comment?

PS I am just a random reader of this blog who is strangely tickled by the opportunity to address a candidate so directly.  I live in CA, so you're not my candidate, sadly, but I still hope you'll answer. :)  Sorry if you've addressed this a million times already.

Give it a break (4.00 / 1)
Leaving aside that was not what was said, we've got bigger fish to fry.

I'm looking forward to hearing more from these netroots candidates who are forging ahead with a plan, even while those in Congress and the White House, have yet to do so.

Kudos to Darcy Burner and her whole team for pulling this together and making this happen with the support of other challengers.

She's truly turning the 2008 campaign on its head!

I didn't read that as an unfair question . (0.00 / 0)
It invites Darcy to tell a story about her growth and evolution as a candidate and public figure.  And when has meta- ever been off-topic on this blog?  (When has off-topic been off-topic?  And when has the "blogosphere" ever resisted reflecting on itself?)

That said:  Kudos to Openleft for getting her in the mix here!

And I can't tell you how excited I am to hear about the presentation Monday!

(By the way Darcy, I wanna take credit for being the first to tell my old friend Dan Savage/The Stranger to get behind  your candidacy in early January of '06.  I can copy you on the email if you like.

I argued that they (and urban-ite activists and politically-oriented hipsters in general) had to start following issues outside their neighborhood.  I recall pointing out that parts of your district (ie Mercer Island) were closer to their office than Ballard.)

To readers unfamiliar with the Seattle region's political geography, Darcy's district lies mainly to the east and south of Seattle city limits.  It's a very dynamic and diverse terrain, home to both the Microsoft campus and perhaps hundreds of square miles of forest and farmland.

Involving challengers in Ohio (0.00 / 0)
We've got good challengers here in Ohio who seem like they'd be very interested and supportive and I wonder if you reached out to them already, or if not then it would be a great thing to do - thinking of Steve Driehaus (OH-01), Vic Wulsin (OH-02), Jane Mitakides (OH-03), Sharen Neuhardt (OH-07), David Robinson (OH-12), Bill O'Neill (OH-14), Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15), and John Boccieri (OH-16). I will forward a link to this post to the ones for whom I have a good contact.
