Dan Maffei Takes a Big Lead

Via the Albany Project, Blue Majority candidate Dan Maffei is in firm control of his race.

   Dan Maffei (D): 41%
   Peter Cappuccilli (R): 29%
   Undecided: 30%

   Dan Maffei (D): 41%
   Randy Wolken (R): 25%
   Undecided: 34%

This is why it's good to support progressives in a wave year like the one that is shaping up.  We could easily see a conservative Democrat in this seat, but instead we'll get a leader.

Dan Maffei for Congress
Give to Maffei through Blue Majority

Update (Chris): Cappuccilli drops out. Maffei's lead grows larger.

This would be a huge win (0.00 / 0)
If we can get Maffei seated, we'll have a progressive in there for decades.  That district in turning blue and whatever Democrats gets in will be able to keep that seat for a long time.

I "networked" with him once (0.00 / 0)
He is truly a generous and real person.  Amazing to think he could become an officeholder.

Imperative (4.00 / 1)
that we get Maffei and Massa across the line. Jon Powers, too.

I think it's very important for this movement to find a way to focus on 10-15 Congressional candidates that we find a way to push over the line. If you look at 2006 and 2008 as a two-election cycle, there are quality people like Massa, Maffei, Charlie Brown, Donna, Darcy, Vic Wulsin, Gary Trauner, etc., that we desperately need to get in to office. There are so many good candidates running now, it's going to be hard to fund them all from 5000 to 10000 lower moneyed but committed netroots denizens like us. Still, I think a concerted effort needs to be made.

Something similar for the Senate is even more crucial and daunting.

Any info on coattails? (0.00 / 0)
Is there any polling that indicates whether Maffei would do better with Clinton or Obama at the top of the Dem ticket? I know he's from NY, but I don't know a lot about the district.

Cappuccilli Just Dropped out for health reasons (0.00 / 0)
The local news just announced that Peter Cappuccilli is dropping out of the race:

Cappuccilli Ends Bid for Congress after "Mini Stroke"

Geddes, New York (WSYR-TV) - Former State Fair Director Peter Cappuccilli has dropped out of the race for the 25th Congressional District after suffering what is commonly known as a "mini stroke."

Democrat Dan Maffei Now Has No Opponents for NY-25 (0.00 / 0)
That article concludes by saying:
Cappuccilli was the only remaining Republican in the race.  The only other person currently running is Democrat Dan Maffei, who narrowly lost to Walsh in 2006.  Republican Randy Wolken, president of the Manufacturers' Association of Central New York, dropped out of the race on March 13th.

This could be easier than we thought.

yes - a great race but ... (0.00 / 0)
Until the democratic party and specifically the superdelegates shut down Hillary's racist and right-wing kamikaze attacks on Obama, I am not giving a dime to down ticket races.  All my money goes to Obama until the party comes to its senses and halts the cancer that the Clinton campaign has become.

Once he is the nominee -- a surge of support will help many candidates down ticket.

Dan Is A Real Leader & a Heck of a Nice Guy (0.00 / 0)
I can't think of anything bad to say about him.  I'm trying...  A long time from now we will look back and say, Dan Maffei was one of the greats in Congress.  Unity is good.
