Opening the Day: McConnell Down by 5 in Kentucky

Mitch McConnell is down 49-44 to Bruce Lunsford, who just won the Democratic primary. The Republicans are in serious trouble for the fall.

Here's what else I'm seeing.

Max Blumenthal reports on Joe Lieberman is going to headline the upcoming Pastor Hagee Summit.
Pam Spaulding has more on state-based blogging problems.
Democrat Melissa Bean voted against the GI Bill. I know activists in and around her district, and they were quite sympathetic to her holding a conservative district with a conservative voting record. I imagine that sympathy is gone.
Both Clinton and Obama's fundraising reports are too big for Excel spreadsheets, causing problems for the FEC.
Convention repression is beginning.
McCain on Obama on Iraq.
"He really has no experience or knowledge or judgment about the issue of Iraq and he has wanted to surrender for a long time."
Obama leads Clinton by 17 points in Montana.

Lunsford .. (4.00 / 1)

Matt .. can you make sure people here know about Lunsford? .. Yeah .. it will be great to take down McConnell .. but I hope people don't get their hopes up about Lunsford .. he'll probably be farther to the right of even people like Ben Nelson .. and not only that .. but I expect this campaign to get nastier .. given Lunsford's past business background(which is not very good)

I noticed he was mentioned in the Quick Hits ... Hardheaded Liberal is right .. neither Graham nor Crist will be McBush's VP choice(because of the types of rumors Hardheaded Liberal mentions) ... I expect McBush will chose either Pawlenty or Mark Sanford(Gov. of SC)

Too big for Microsoft Excel 2003. Excel 2007 can handle them, as can any number of free database options.

A quick note on Bean (4.00 / 1)

There were a couple of posts over the last week or so on primaries, progressive fundraising organizations, etc., and the point was made by Stoller (I think?) that EMILY's List is the closest thing we have to an organization supporting progressives and whatnot, but Melissa Bean has been one of the largest recipients of PAC funds from EMILY's List (as were Tammy Duckworth and Christine Jennings, where candidates like Christine Cegelis and Jan Schneider never got a dime from EMILY's List).

I'm not sure what the answer is to that question (of funding progressive candidates/primary challengers) but I don't think that EMILY's List is the answer, even in the short term.

Emily's list is also the main communications arm.... (0.00 / 0)

...of the Hillary Clinton campaign... and she hasn't exactly run a progressive campaign...

It also primarily targets female voters, leaving out half of the voting populace!
