Happy Wednesday!

  • Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan betrays his former boss and says the war in Iraq was based on lies.  In 2008.  Really, that's how long it took?

  • Phil Gramm, McCain's advisor on subprime loans, is working with UBS, which is tens of billions of dollars deep into the mess.

  • Chris Van Hollen sees 75 seats in play, 50 of which are held by Republicans.

  • Lieberman actually discussed censoring youtube in 2006.

  • Dan Seals offers motorists $1.85 a gallon for gas for an hour.  The result is massive traffic snarls.

  • The Democratic National Convention Committee is missing its fundraising goals by a substantial margin.  What a shocker.

Fighting Obama smears (4.00 / 1)
Hartford Courant columnist Colin McEnroe had a post on his blog about the number of smears and misrepresentations that got posted in the comments of a column he wrote on Obama. He liked fighting the misrepresentations to fighting a brush fire.

http://blogs.courant.com/colin...

Daniel De Groot has been writing on this topic with emails but Topix comment threads on newspaper websites are filled with what end up being searchable smears.

I'm guessing the only way to fight this kind of thing is simply  an organized effort by volunteers to spend the time adding factual information to comment threads.

John McCain

Can't shake this story from my brain (0.00 / 0)
Its not political, on the surface it seems rather funny, but I can't help but think that there's more to it.

The story implies that this mechanism for testing sniffer dogs is not normally used - does that mean its a violation of the rules that, I'm certain, cover such events?  If so, how do they choose the bag in which they secret the bag? Why wasn't it discovered by the customs service on the other end of the trip? So many holes in such a short, seemingly innocuous story.

Californians oppose the proposed gay marriage ban (4.00 / 2)
By 51%-42%, per the Field Poll.  Good news if it holds up.

John McCain--He's not who you think he is.

Wow. (0.00 / 0)
I haven't been following this very closely, but that strikes me as both amazing and unexpected.

I support John McCain because children are too healthy anyway.

What It Would Look Like If We Had Pro-Consumer Broadband Policy (4.00 / 1)
In London, a Glimpse of a Broadband Future
Om Malik, Monday, May 26, 2008 at 7:06 PM PT Comments (18):

London is one of those few fortunate cities to have a surfeit of telecom competition. From broadband providers to mobile operators, Londoners have a choice. They have decent broadband speeds as well as access to Wi-Fi and 3G networks. And as a result, there has been a big change in their behavior. A new report from Ofcom outlines how Londoners (and the rest of the UK) are using these new wireless and broadband services. It's a great example of how consumer behavior changes with bandwidth.

In London:

* 40 percent of people watch TV or video content online.
* 20 percent make VoIP calls.
* 32 percent are using their mobile phones to access the Internet.
* 19 percent listen to audio content on their mobiles.

Impressed? I am! I feel London has the user base to qualify as an always-on platform that will soon spur interesting applications, including many that are yet to be invented.

So this is what it felt like in the 1880s, looking to London as the seat of civilization. Time travel, brought to you by the Bush Administration.
