Yes. Here's How (4.00 / 2)

For anyone who can promote things in the first place.

When a diary has been promoted, the options underneath it bccome:

[edit diary]
[modify promotion]
[subject promote]

If you click on "modify promotion", the two buttons at the bottom are "save" and "demote."  

Guess which one you should use.

That seems to work if a diary was originally written as a non-front-page diary and then promoted.

On the diaries where I had originally selected the "post to front page" checkbox when I first posted it, I don't have a "modify promotion".

You Should Be Able To Re-Promote It, Then Demote It (0.00 / 0)

I think I've actually done that once.  But at the very least, it make sense, and is worth checking out.
