( - promoted by Chris Bowers)

This it the t-shirt Darcy was wearing when she ran out of her house.  Though she had what I know is a fantastic fundraising quarter, Darcy's not going to be doing call-time for some time, so let's help her out.

Her letter to her supporters is here.

And please leave your well-wishes in the comments, and I'll send them to Darcy.

Matt, (4.00 / 3)
Can we compile a series of comments/mini-letters for her the way we did for Hoyer?

On The Road To 2008: Commentary on issues as we countdown to the next opportunity to change the direction of America

I was just in Seattle this weekend (4.00 / 3)
and there was serious Darcy Burner momentum that was just buzzing all around the area. It was great to see and hear.

To have this happen to her and family - just tragic. The least we can do is help where we can, make sure that she knows we're all behind her, no matter what hand Fate tries to deal her. I just gave through ActBlue - I hope everyone else does too!

Thanks for doing this Matt... (4.00 / 2)
I figured she'd be pretty busy taking care of other things and didn't think it'd be wise to bother her with condolences, however heart-felt.

So I'm glad you're collecting them here.  And in case it's not obvious, I can't wait for Darci to get back on her feet.  It's got to be heartbreaking to lose one's home (and cat); I just wish there was something words could do to help her through the tough time.

Thanks for persevering Darci; I cannot wait to see you sworn in!

Darcy, (4.00 / 4)
My thoughts and condolences go out to you and your family.  This really demonstrates how quickly one's entire life can change so radically without warning.  I was recently the victim of a break-in in my house in which thankfully only one thing was stolen, and I was very devastated by that loss.  Your loss is obviously much greater than that, so I can only imagine the incredible pain you feel as a result.  I'm happy that everyone was able to get out of the house safely, and hopefully there will be some good that comes out of this tragic occurrence.

I've also made a small contribution to your campaign.  Please know that we support you and will do what we can to help you out in your time of need.

Thank you Darcy (0.00 / 0)
Darcy,

Your commitment and integrity have been noticed far outside your district, and have given hope to many of us across the nation who are looking for true progressive leaders. You've done all that even before you get elected in November.

So I wanted to say thank-you, Darcy.
Stay strong. Keep fighting.

This isn't a note for Darcy (0.00 / 0)
but I think we should do another major push for her like kos did with Barry Walsh and we did with Darcy when Bush came to fill in for her.

the fund raising we did for her when Bush came to help out Reichert

This is it (0.00 / 0)
I just matched mky 2Q contributions to her.  Giving now will help relieve her from having to fundraise over the next few weeks while she tries to get their life back together.

And best wishes to one of our very best candidates.

The important thing is that she and her family got out alive and uninjured (0.00 / 0)
The rest can and will be rebuilt. She's clearly a fighter, as I'm sure they are too, and will come out on top in the end. My heart goes out to them, and I will be making another donation to her campaign shortly. She will be the next congresswoman from the WA 8th.

Incidentally, I live on the other side of Lakes Washington and Sammamish from where her house was, in North Seattle, and have cycled not far from there several times. It's a very pretty area, with a country feel but not far from everything, just beyond the outer reach of Seattle's urban sprawl. I can see why they chose to live there.

And, fwiw, Carnation, the town that they live in, was named after the evaporated milk company of the same name, which has a research facility just outside of town, and the series and movie Twin Peaks was filmed in the nearby towns of North Bend and Snoqualmie.

I can't afford to contribute anything really, but this is obviously screwed and she has to know we have her back.

you are more important than you know (4.00 / 2)
Darcy---seeing progressives like you in action has changed my life in ways far better than I could imagine. The Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq is perhaps the most remarkable strategic plan I have ever encountered, and I have long since pledged to do everything I possibly can to ensure its passage.

I hope you are able to stay strong when times are tough, as I assume they are especially right now. I'll pass on what Bill Moyers suggested we should concentrate on in such times: "know that you are not alone in this movement".

You are certainly not alone, as you are the kind of leader we should all aspire to be. Thank you for all that you do, and I hope you (or your staff--I signed up to volunteer yesteday) let me know of anything I can do to help out more!

Our thoughts are with you right now. I'm very glad to hear your family is okay.

I am so very sorry for your loss and what you are going through.  I've been there and I know it's tough.  Know that there are thousands and thousands of us who care.

(I swore no contributions for two weeks as I overdid 2Q, but today I made an exception and sent your campaign $100.  I hope in some way it gives you a chance to focus on your family and personal space for a little while.)

I've created (0.00 / 0)
an ActBlue page called "A New House" for Darcy Burner--and by that, I mean the House of Representatives.

Goldy at HorsesAss has been using this page to direct his contributions.

here's the code.

I set a target of $5000 for today on this page, but we got that. (One more day of fundraising for the campaign covered!)

Darcy, thanks for all the work you do.  This setback, right when you have to get into high gear would be overwhelming for everyone.  If you need strength, I would suggest you think about all the people you are gonna help, people who truly need a leader.  I hope my small contribution takes a little weight off your mind.  If you and the family need a place to stay I got plenty of room in florida.  PS.. love the shirt.

The directive on Darcy's t-shirt (0.00 / 0)
As noted elsewhere, the directive on Darcy's t-shirt is a reference to the end of an XML stanza.

In other words,

</war> = end of the war

Geekspeak for something Darcy believes in.

(Note - I had to add a backslash \ in front of the </war>, or the posting software would read it as a command)

Darcy, we love you and we wish you the best... (0.00 / 0)
Darcy, I was sad when I heard about your house fire and I'm glad that your husband and son made it out OK.  I'm also sorry to hear about your cat - my wife and I have two, and we'd be sad if one of our cats died in a fire. You've had our back while campaigning, so we now have yours.  I donated $100 yesterday, and I hope lots of others do the same so that you can take care of your family and still make it to Congress.

Dear Darcy (0.00 / 0)
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  I imagine you must feel overwhelmed right now, but I hope the rebuilding goes well and offer my sincere condolences on Charlotte's death.

I'm hoping and praying that you will have two new houses to go to in the fall: your rebuilt family home and the House of Representatives.  This country needs good leaders like you.  Thank you for running.

Take care.
