Dems searching their Souls on drilling... http://www.politico.com/news/stories/070...
Matt's diary a few days ago on the connection between the war in Iraq and high oil prices was provocative as hell, but few chose to bite. Oil prices continue to hover at $140/barrel, T. Boone Pickens this week unveiled a renewables-heavy energy plan aimed at disconnecting from foreign oil dependency, and several recent polls show more Americans now worried about gas prices than healthcare and Iraq.
Now this from today's politico.com:
Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) said he sensed there were enough votes from his Democratic colleagues to expand offshore drilling into new areas - and that the eastern Gulf of Mexico "should be one of the first places we should look."
There may be nothing more treacherous to progressives than navigating the politics of $4-$5 per-gallon gas. So, what about it? Any takers? Are we ready to talk about this here?
