| 21:34 - A pre-taped message from Obama. An appeal to let bygones be bygone and win the election. He focuses on foreign policy differences, and recaps his record of accuracy against McCain's abysmal record of wrongitude.
21:39 - Obama: "Our chance to build a lasting progressive future" - there's that p-word again. Nice.
21:55 - A comedian opening, some decent quips. Then they spoof Al gore's entrance to bring on Gina Cooper.
22:11 - Aug 13-16, 2009, Netroots Nation in Pittsburg, PA.
22:27 - They have a speaker appealing for donations and sponsors for NN2009 now.
22:31 - I'm not easily offended, but jokes about missing children is just not a promising avenue for comedy. Ok, he's moved on to global warming.
22:36 - Good point on the framing of "capital punishment" versus the "death penalty" - "Capital Tax" anyone?
22:40 - kos is up.
22:46 - Nice intro by Kos, here's Donna.
22:48 - A shout out to Openleft from Donna.
22:55 Donna: The internet democratizes campaigns. Her election is a message to the Democratic party. She shouldn't have been the first AA woman elected from Maryland, as blue as it is. She sometimes half-wonders if she's wandered into the Republican caucus by mistake. Better Democrats. Shout out to Matt. Al Wynn said there was a "vast left wing conspiracy" against him (cheers, and Donna laughs).
23:00 Donna: Don't listen to the pundits and politicos who say you can't win, they are the establishment. Importance of uniting with labour and environmental movements to her campaign. Women also. I was an early Obama supporter. We should not be silent when we disagree with our nominee. Lesson learned under Clinton, liberals were too silent under him. Calls on crowd to support progressive candidates: Darcy Burner, Joe Garcia. Help Obama get elected. To women bloggers: Get Michelle's back.
23:05 Donna: Way media treats Michelle "an absolute disgrace." Our job is to hear the american people. They get it. Bear Sterns gets a bailout in 72 hours, foreclosed home owners get nothing. Her last fill up was over $50, never paid that much for a tank of gas. I can afford it, but what about single mom, worker. Why are mass transit prices increasing? Crazy. Congress must be smarter and more honest on energy. If not all of us should be turned out.
23:10 Donna: Sitting as Speaker Pro Tem, I endure listening to Republicans call for more drilling. Public knows this won't work. Take 5 years to find anything. Public knows we need mass transit, renewable energy. We need to stop playing games. Congress' health care plan actually not so great. $350/month for her and her son. Not affordable. Wants health care that isn't about "propping up an insurance system." Health care a right. Iraq now: US must stop viewing itself as an occupying force in Iraq. Can't be spending so much on military occupation.
23:15 Donna: I cast a vote against Iraq funding 15 minutes after being sworn in. Not enough. Don't cheer. We need more progressives in house and senate. Need a president who hears us. We must ensure it is known that in 2009 it is time to get out of Iraq. FISA: US government must not listen to my phone calls without a warrant. Loss is only temporary. It will come back. I chatted with a "ron paul libertarian" he says "I don't believe in big government but if we are going to have it, I want health care" - Donna: At times I believe in big government, like health care, but not when it comes to invading countries.
Ok, she's done. It was a good speech. |
