The Village does what the Village does.

  • The Nepotism Broadcasting Network hires Luke Russert.

"I'm not trying to be my father. He's irreplaceable."

As Digby notes, affirmative action is so unfair.

  • GM lost $15B this quarter.

  • Walmart is warning its employees of a Democratic win.

According to about a dozen Wal-Mart employees who attended such meetings in seven states, Wal-Mart executives claim that employees at unionized stores would have to pay hefty union dues while getting nothing in return, and may have to go on strike without compensation. Also, unionization could mean fewer jobs as labor costs rise.

  • Obama is too fit to be President?  Argh.

  • The Cunning Realist catches Rush Limbaugh and Fed Reserve officials preaching that excess means progress.

So that guy who some have blamed for the anthrax attacks committed suicide.  Supposedly he was about to be charged.

The whole thing is very strange.

Wal-Mart and Obama--it's also the Estate Tax (0.00 / 0)
One of the biggest opponents of the Estate tax has been the Walton Family (along with the Mars Candy family).  Under the Bush tax cuts, the Estate Tax is repealed as of 2010, and then reverts to the much more draconian 1999 level for 2011, requiring some soer of action by Congress next year.  Obama supports freezoing the exemption (untaxed portion) at next year's lkevel of $3.5 million (I'd prefer this yeasr's level of $2 million) and keeping the tax on the remainder at 45%.  This is the only way to prevent a hereditary aristocracy based on great fortunes.  I thinbk the Wal-Mart opposition is not just the unions, but the tremendous haircut the Walton family heirs would take if the Estate tax stays at something like this or next year's level.

Remember, no one makes you shop at Wal-Mart.  Costco is much better run and takes much better care of its employees.

John McCain--He's not who you think he is.
