Welcome to Denver

I'm in Denver driving from the airport, and man in the drive flat.  I ran into Sam Powers and Cass Sunstein in the airport.  He was selling 'Nudge' at the bookstore and she was taking pictures and selling the book like an extremely proud doting wife/publicist.  It was adorable.  I got some video but nothing that interesting; Sustein demurred when I asked him some of the more controversial questions.  When I asked him about why he labeled Rahm Emanuel a 'liberal Democrat' he said that it was probably not accurate but he needed to balance him against the conservative Rick Santorum.  Sunstein also bristled at Matt Yglesias's characterization of his recent paper on climate change and wants to meet up with him/confront him.  I also saw Pat Leahy wheeling luggage.  There's some sweet subpoena star power here.

And in case you had any illusions, the convention is brought to you by the nice folks selling clean coal, who happily greeted us in the airport.

I'll be sure to let MY know on his blog .. that Sunstein is out for blood .. also .. Atrios says that Joe Klein is stalking him ... and  .. did you tell Sunstein that Glennzilla is there? .. that ought to make ol' Cass even more PO'ed.

I forgot to add .. (0.00 / 0)
MY won't be in Denver this week .. so Sunstein can chill out(somewhat) .. MY will be in St Paul next week .. I hope they don't serve booze at the convention center there.

Best thing so far (0.00 / 0)
Hasn't been directly convention related. The commercial I saw on tv yesterday afternoon that was silent except for two lines of script:

"Stop Global Warming

Or all the Reese's cups will melt."

with Reese's cup background.

John McCain opposes the GI Bill.

Is there an Octagon in St. Paul? (4.00 / 1)

Ooooh! Policy wonk smackdown! Unfunded transportation mandates at twenty paces!

I hope Sunstein is planning on going to The Republican convention.

Will they need seconds? Who will be there to hold MY's jacket?

it seems bizarre (0.00 / 0)
that all this is happening an hour away from us.

We are going to Denver on tuesday to a filming of the Daily Show.  Otherwise  we are staying away.

Part of me feels guilty.....but a bigger part feels relieved.  Moving and the first week of my daughters new school is probably to blame.

Enjoy the weather, its been really nice here.

I'm guessing.... (0.00 / 0)
...since Colorado is only the #10 coal-producer the audience is the convention.

Similar signs all over PA, where I dropped the son off at college last week, but then they're #4. I wonder why they don't put up little boxes of anthracite for the tourists to take away, like lobster up heah.

What is the total amount the "Clean Coal" people are Spending in Denver? (0.00 / 0)
I guess they may never have to report it -- something like 4 million?  more?  Anyone have any idea?

No matter who wins I'm sure the ads are ready and the billboards are prepared for thw week of January 17, 2009 in Washington, DC.  Folks, you ain't seen nothing yet.
