Laughing Liberally To Keep From Crying
by Lee Camp

8:07p Having coffee in the Coffee Bean in Denver discussing blogging with a few nerds of tremendous proportions. Sadly enough, I fit right in.

8:09p Riot police shooting tear gas into small crowd of protesters. Cops are dressed like Storm Troopers. Protesters are dressed like a Salvation Army catalogue.

8:11p I join the protesters though I'm not yet sure what they're protesting.

8:15p Learn that they're protesting the corporate ownership of the Democratic party (and the Satan ownership of the Republican party).

8:16p Learn from a different protester that they're protesting that Hillary wasn't given the nomination.

8:17p Learn from another protester that they're protesting Denver's anti-longboard laws.

8:19p Now they're protesting the genocide in Darfur.

8:21p More tear gas from a cop with a "Stone Cold Steve Austin" tattoo.

8:23p Now we're protesting police brutality.

8:27p Cops make full use of their 11th Amendment: the right to beat up punk kids carrying daffodils because they called you a word you didn't understand.

8:29p Protesters protest the curtailing of their right to protest.

8:32p All 127 protesters break up in 127 factions, each fighting to bring an end to a different atrocity going on somewhere around the world.

8:35p Protesters disperse, pissed at each other.

8:36p Cops disperse, some weeping openly because there wasn't more pummeling of "commie hippies."

8:37p I get back to my latte at the Coffee Bean. Jump back into that conversation about tag clouds.

Oh boy (0.00 / 0)
sounds like something that happened to me during a cigarette break at the 2004 convention in Boston.
