Grassroots Anti-McCain Ad To Air

This ad is from DKos diarist cartwrightdale, re-presented in his diary "Our anti-McCain ads are going on the air! (w/your help!!)".  It uses a very simple conceit--as the American people's approval of Bush has declined, McCain's support for him has increased.  A simply notion, no?  But look at how effectively it's presented:

This is the future, folks.  Better ideas from below.  Not just in political ads, but in everything.  It's soooooo American!

thats a great ad, congrats!

It hits the central issue with directness and clarity that no one could miss.

Only one quibble: at the end, "Ask yourself this: do you support George Bush more than you did 4 years ago?" I wanted to hear "John McCain does." I realize the point was already made, but to me that last summing up would only make it stronger.

Agreed! (0.00 / 0)
In fact, I had the exact same response.

It's sort of like the old speech-and-debate adage: first, tell them what you're going to tell them, then tell them what you have to tell them, last, tell them what you just told them.  Whatever you have to say, make sure you drive it home.

However--and I haven't been following this closely--my impression is that this was the original ad, and that it may have been changed since then based on feedback from folks like you and me.

Very effective, I think.

Is there a cheaper, 30 second version?  It seems this could have had the same impact in 30 seconds if done correctly.  Also, the intro with "worse president in U.S. history" seems unnecessary and distracts from the very clear empirical case given in the rest of the ad.

I am constantly amazed at how smart, not just the people 'here' are, but America is. The MSM has prevented America from speaking for so long I bagan to believe that we (4.00 / 3)
were stupid.

I love this country. We will be alright. America is going to be ok.

heh (4.00 / 1)
I noticed the inclusion of this clip in the background (without the finger).

I wonder if viewers will have a subliminal reaction to that footage even if they don't remember where they saw it.
