At Ron Paul Revolution: Tom Woods Lays Into McBama, Neocon Death Cult

I'm waiting to see Grover Norquist speak at the Target Center in Minneapolis surrounded by a few thousand Ron Paul supporters.  Yesterday a Ron Paul supporter proselytized to me for fifteen minutes about freedom and property before going on a rant against President Lincoln for provoking the civil war by raising taxes on South Carolina.  This is, shall we say, 'out of the box' thinking.

Here's Tom Woods laying into McCain and Obama.  His quips are remarkable, this one is a vicious criticism of Madeleine Albright.

And here's a line about McCain versus Obama on the tax code.  It's fresh rhetoric, really compelling, and horrific at the same time.

... Norquist just spoke, and he talked about how Democrats are people who don't want the unemployed 'to get jobs and switch parties'.  He also compared Republicans that vote for higher taxes to 'ratheads' in coke bottles.

This guy knows how to work a crowd.

Creepy.

Matt, can you give a brief overview of what this event is? Is it a part of the official Republican convention? Why is Grover Norquist speaking to a crowd of Ron Paul supporters? I would assume that a Republican team player like Norquist would be on board with the effort to marginalize the anti-war Ron Paul movement. Why is he appearing at one of their events?

I'm not sure how welcome Norquist is anyway in the main hall.  Didn't McCain's committee expose his links to Abramoff?

The Albright thing is an old Chomsky line. And the not-much-difference-between-the-candidates/is-this-democracy-worth-exporting? line is also not unfamiliar. It's always been odd how folks can kind of come together at the extremes.

Lincoln Raised Taxes On South Carolina To Finance His Time Machine (0.00 / 0)
Yesterday a Ron Paul supporter proselytized to me for fifteen minutes about freedom and property before going on a rant against President Lincoln for provoking the civil war by raising taxes on South Carolina.

'Cause South Carolina left before Lincoln arrived.  So it just had to be all about his time machine.  Which looked sort of like a photo booth, if you know what I mean.

This is, shall we say, 'out of the box' thinking.

Silly Matt!  You can't get a time machine out of the box.  You've got to build it yourself!

Next time the Republicans have a convention, rather than all the Homeland Security helpful planning, they ought to plan having all the American Psychologists have their convention in the adjoining city.  They clearly need to have that kind of help at hand.

Ron Paul follower actually seem to care about the Constitution and civil liberties, unlike most of our Democratic leaders. Ron Paul followers want to drastically cut back the military industrial complex--something I rarely hear coming from Democrats, aside from Kucinich. In my opinion they take issues of individual liberty much more seriously that most Democratic leaders.

I think many of their beliefs (about money and markets) are absurdly utopian or just plain wacky. It was odd to recently hear Ron Paul (in Minneapolis on Sunday) complain that "we can build bridges in Iraq but they are falling down in America." I mean, the more radical Paul disciples actually believe that roads and bridges should be privatized--sold off. So that comment from Paul rings hollow in light of his privatization and no taxes mantra. In their world we don't need no stinking bridges that can't turn a profit for someone.

Nevertheless, these people respect the Constitution much more than most Congressional Democrats. Sad to say.

I know it's taboo to say these things. So let me have it.

And Matt, welcome to Minneapolis!
