The Spying Society Meets Consumerism

Greetings from Las Vegas!  I'm in town for a conference.  While looking for an actual bank that won't rip me off for a withdrawal, I came across this:

Pic of a storefront display of a pricey purse being the focus of multiple surveillance cameras

"With this stylish purse from Louis Vuitton, you will catch the eye of all the security people watching you every second of the day."

I didn't find a name-brand bank.  I guess they're all out of business.  Oh, and see inside for my own personal David Broder moment.

While taking a cab to an evening function with some colleagues, we asked the cabbie what he thought about the election.  He demurred not wanting to offend us, until we told him we were all Canadian anyway.

Cabbie:  "I'm leaning towards Obama then."
Me:  "Why?"
Cabbie:  "Because I don't want any more damn Republicans running things."

He also told us that another fare had called him a socialist for supporting Obama.

Now that I've had this conversation, I'm ready to be Dean of the Washington Press Corps.  WaPo, my email is in my profile if you want to make an offer.

What, no Cirrus debit card or the like, tied to your checking/savings account?  That's how to get money out when you're on the road--anywhere...

I could get money (0.00 / 0)
But the white-label machines in all the casinos charge $5 per withdrawal, which is pretty absurd.

The one at the mall charged "only" $3.  Oh well.  Should have pulled more US cash while in Canada.

Right, members of the party busy nationalizing the financial industry (0.00 / 0)
still reserve the right to call their opponents "socialists".  Because that's a bad thing.

Being a Republican means never having to say you're sorry or suffer from the cognitive dissonance of it all.
