Chuck Schumer: "I Think What McCain Just Did Is Weird"

I'm watching CNN.  Wow, Schumer is taking McCain to task for injecting himself into delicate negotiations after not being involved at all, and is asking him to go away.  He calls McCain's move a cheap political stunt.

Wolf Blitzer keeps saying that McCain has made a 'blockbuster move' by suspending his campaign.  This is so stupid.  At least tonight we can look forward to Bush going on TV at 9pm ET to annoy everyone.

McCain said the country could slide into a depression by Monday (0.00 / 0)
and we'll see 12% unemployment.

Bush declares a national emergency and suspends the Constitution. Cancel the election, everybody go home, Bush will be president until further notice.

I'm just fascinated (0.00 / 0)
That this is such a huge, must-be-done-this-instant problem to McCain, NOW-- but wasn't saturday, sunday, monday or tuesday.

And actually, come to think of it (0.00 / 0)
If the idea here is that McCain needs to halt the politics for a few days so that he can attend to matters in the Senate-- well, doesn't he have, like, a Vice Presidential candidate also in his campaign? A Vice Presidential candidate who unlike McCain, Obama, and Biden, does not have Senate duties? Why couldn't Palin keep campaigning while McCain rushed back to Washington?

Hmmmm

What will McCain actually DO in DC (4.00 / 2)
He's not going to actually be involved in the negotiations. He sits on the committees for Armed Services (where he is the ranking member); Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and  Indian Affairs. The negotiations are taking place in Banking. What he's going to do is hold press conferences and stage media stunts. The MSM will comply with these tactics, as it plays into their campaign narratives. So Obama needs to stay outside DC to run against DC and point out how much McCain's grandstanding is part of the problem -- not part of the solution. Use the overwhelming force of his advertising money, surrogates, and campaign infrastructure to smother whatever McCain is trying to do in DC to raise his profile.

Too nice (4.00 / 1)
McCain's campaign team is mostly ran by lobbyists who represent corporations that will profit from a bailout.

Unless McCain suspends his campaign, those lobbyists won't be able to devote 100% of their attention to getting the most taxpayer money for the CEOs of their employers.

That's why McCain has to go to DC.  Because that's the only way his handlers can be certain to steal their fare share from the taxpayer.
