Dumber And Dumber With Joe The Plumber

Bursting on the scene in a blaze of lies seems to be the GOP style this year.  First Sarah Palin, now Joe The Plumber.  And we do mean bursting on the scene, as Joe's now talking about running for Congress, according to CNN's Politicalticker blog:

Could Joe the Plumber become Joe the congressman?

Joe Wurzelbacher, the most famous plumber in America thanks to John McCain and Sarah Palin, told conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham Friday he's considering a run for Congress in 2010.

That would pit Wurzelbacher against longtime Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur for Ohio's 9th district on the state's northern border, which includes Toledo and Sandusky. "I'll tell you what, we'd definitely be in one heck of a fight, Marcy Kaptur definitely has a following in this area," he said of the possibility. "But, you know, I'd be up for it."

Uh, yeah, just like you were up for buying the two-man business you work for, based on the conversation you had when you were first hired?

Or just like you were up to the media scrutiny this last week, when you were reduced to a whining crybaby?

Well, Joe, here's what Marcy Kapture's record of standing up to public scrutiny looks like...

Tell you what, Joe.  Maybe you should work on paying your back taxes before you start messing with someone who knows what the hell she's talking about.

CNN, again:

Wurzelbacher, who gained fame after he challenged Barack Obama on his tax plan earlier this month, has attained a certain rock-star status in the Republican Party and his entrance into the race would likely be greeted with instant excitement and media coverage.

Ingraham herself said she would immediately volunteer for his campaign and help him with campaign advertising and PR. Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee said they would welcome Wurzelbacher's candidacy with "open arms."

"We support Joe the Plumber and people like him everyday with our support for lower taxes and energy independence," NRCC spokesman Ken Spain said.

Wow! He really sounds good to go!  So what if he's dumber than dirt?  Palin's already blazed that trail.  You betcha!

It's just that, well, maybe the timing's a bit off.  It's not such a good decade for Republicans.

But a spokesman for Kaptur told CNN Wurzelbacher is already off on the wrong foot.

"We just had another big layoff at the jeep plant, another 800 workers," Kaptur spokesman Steve Fought said. "So embracing Bush-McCain economics is kind of a strange way to launch your campaign. I'd have to question that strategy"

Ya think?

But who needs facts, logic, or even the common sense they were born with, when they've got...

Wurzelbacher's comments come a week after a group of college Republicans launched a Web site with the hope of drafting him for a congressional run.

"Washington, DC is broken and it needs to be fixed. Joe Wurzelbacher has a real-world perspective and the right attitude to clean up the mess on Capitol Hill," says the group's Web site, which carries the slogan, "Plunge the crap out of Washington."

College Republicans!  Jack Abramoff! Lee Atwater!  Karl Rove!

With politics like this, a lot of comedy writers are gonna be out of a job.  Their services will no longer be needed. A transcription service will do just fine, instead.

Well, at least they can always take up plumbing.

I can't think of a better example to highlight the ways anti-intellectualism and an overall sense of stupidity have seized power over the republican party. Well, I guess there is Sarah Palin. And George Bush.

There Is A Difference, Though (4.00 / 4)
With Bush and Palin the argument is that they're smarter than you elitists think.

With Joe the Plumber, the argument is "Sure he's dumb.  Whatcha gonna do about it?"

Stupidity- the Republican theme song (0.00 / 0)
Stupid is as stupid does.

Paul you made my morning (4.00 / 2)
this post was hysterical.

Let'em think stoopid is bettuh!

that should be their new mantra

Liar, Liar, Sam's Pants on Fire (4.00 / 2)
If you look way down into that plumber's crack, you'll see that Joe's (or is it Sam's?) underwear is smoldering.  When he asked Obama about Obama's tax plans, he lied about buying his boss' business.  He had no plans, nor money, to buy it.  He also lied when he said his boss' business makes about $280,000 per year.  Actually, it makes about $100,000 per year.  Both Joe (err or is it Sam!?), would do better under Obama's tax policies than under McCain's.

I think we should stick to this angle of attack--Sam the unlicensed plumber is a liar, just like most other Republican politicians.  He, like McCain, is out of touch, and when I say out of touch, I mean with reality.  He has only a passing familiarity with reality because he gets all his news from right-wing radio (Limbaugh, Savage, et. al.) and right-wing television news (Hannity, Billo, et. al.).  These news outlets lie consistently, make stuff up, and regurgitate Republican talking points on command.  This has been going on for over twenty years now.  So, a significant portion of the population--that portion known as the Republican base--is out of touch with reality.

Linbaugh, Hannity, et al. intentionally lie and their listeners consume these lies.  Joe or Sam or whatever his name is has passed from being a consumer of these lies into a manufacturer of the lies.

I think this is a better line of attack because calling a guy dumb, who lives in Ohio, makes $40,000 a year off of a working class profession, is playing with fire.  It's okay to call Bush dumb because Bush is the son of an east coast power elite and it works with Palin because she already is a governor of a state and is running for Vice President.  Joe/Sam would be running for one seat out of 535 in Congress and would be running as just a guy.

But He IS Dumb For Thinking We'd Buy This Shit Anymore (4.00 / 2)
And the plain fact is, real average Joes and Janes are waking up to the fact that they want their leaders to be better than them at dealing with the world's big problems.  Just like they want their doctors to be better at medicine.

Because the truth is, if you're really secure in who you are, you don't fall for all this phony patronizing BS the GOP has been handing people for decades now.

You don't elect these people to have a beer with them.  Not the President.  Not your congressperson. Not even your dogcatcher.  You elect them to do a job. And if you take your job seriously, then you expect them to take theirs seriously as well.

So, yes. Joe's a liar.  But his lying and his stupidity are inextricably linked.  And we don't want any part of either of them.

You're Right (0.00 / 0)
He's a liar and he's stupid.  I'm not arguing with that and I'm not arguing with the fact that we need more intelligent leaders and people now get that after seven years of Bush.  Perhaps I should have said the first line of attack is that Sam's the Dumber--err, I mean Plumber--is a liar.

I have a better idea (4.00 / 3)
Let Sarah Palin, after she cruises to the nomination in 2012 on the crest of the "Know Nothing" wing of the GOP, choose Joey Wurzelbacher as her running mate.  The only problem I see would be Jon Stewart's retirement since his job would be done here.

RNC paid $900 for a spray-on tan for Sarah Palin, too.

by Martin Eisenstadt

I was a wee bit curious, too, so I talked to a colleague who was in the prep suite in St. Paul with Sarah, and it turns out Tracy was brought in exclusively to apply a spray-on tan to the future Veep. Yup, that's what Tracy's specialty is: According to her MySpace page, she runs a company called "tans n lashes by tracy" (that's Tracy in the picture, and the spray-on tan shot is from her MySpace page, too). Apparently, Sarah had what's affectionately called an "eskimo tan" when she showed up at the Convention. They needed to brighten her up, and even out her tan for all the new cleavage and leg-baring fashions. And given John's history with melanoma, he insisted on a spray-on for Sarah. Thorp was paid $900 plus expenses [expenses greater than $300, plus air fare] to come into town for the job..........
