Halloween Activism Open Thread

It's Halloween, and I know many of you are about to go out to parties, or tricker-treating with your children. Before / after you do so, take some action to help build the Democratic wave that is coming in four days.

Give to Better Democrats. Already, 16 of you have taken advantage of the donor match available on the page today. We still have dozens of donations that can be matched today, so dig deep one last time and pile it on. Even $5 helps.

Start a Personal Paid Media campaign. Find a congressional campaign or a swing state where you want to help out, and start running Google search ads using your own message and your own budget.  With these campaigns, you only reach people who are actively searching for information on the election. Natasha and I are running ten ads right now. You can do however many you like. Pile it on.

Tomorrow, I will be canvassing my neighborhood. What will you be doing to help make history? This is an open thread for weekend activism ideas and opportunities.

24 hrs of volunteering in 2 days (4.00 / 3)
My wife, friends, out of towners, and I will volunteer from 9 AM tomorrow to 9 PM and then do it again on Sunday-- two twelve hours shifts.

It will hurt a bit.
But it will hurt even more to lose.

Here in Oregon (4.00 / 2)
Not a lot to do, most have mailed in their ballots. What I will do is volunteer a couple of hours at the local Obama campaign headquarters to do follow up phone calls to voters identified whose ballot has not yet arrived at the County elections office. That is tracked so the phoning can be much more efficient.

I'd be interested in knowing how many (4.00 / 2)
people commenters here think they convinced to vote for Obama among family, friends, receptive undecided canvassees, and unregistered Obama supporters.

I am estimating maybe 20, including 2 1/2 family members (I convinced my father in law not to vote for McCain, but he won't go all the way). My goal was 50.  Probably won't make it, but we'll see.

John McCain won't insure children

Yay! I'm in a battleground state! (4.00 / 3)
My old roommate is getting married in Asheville NC tomorrow. I flew out a day early and spent today in the Asheville NC office phoning Obama supporters to tally the early voters and recruit volunteers. The wedding is tomorrow, but I'll be spending the morning in my suit and tie at a satellite office making phone calls, and again on Sunday before my flight back home leaves. Tuesday I will likely be pollstanding for Jim Himes back home in CT. I usually am a lite user of my cell phone, using minute-to-minute plans, but I bought a chunk of minutes just for GOTV  week.

PS - GPS rules if you're in someplace you've never been before. And North Carolina Democrats are all super nice people.

Winding down from trick or treating (4.00 / 3)
Getting ready for a long day of canvassing tomorow.

Worth it though.

John McCain: Beacuse lobbyists should have more power

Heading up to Gettysburg today (4.00 / 2)

Didn't have as many trick-or-treaters last night as I usually do. Maybe the Obama sign in my yard kept the turnout low in my reddish neighborhood... :)

What the heck. More candy for me.

And now it's time to nail down PA.
