Fairfax and Richmond (4.00 / 1)
According to the state board of election site at 10:40, about 30% of Fairfax still out (huge Obama stronghold) and none of Richmond city (another huge Obama vote pool) has been reported.

There is not much left for McCain in Va except for the crying.

sorry (4.00 / 1)
This meant to be a reply about Virginia below

[ Parent ]
Congratulations (4.00 / 5)
To everyone.

WE DID IT MY BIZNOTCHES!!!! (4.00 / 5)
.

oh man. (4.00 / 5)
I just got a shiver up my spine...
a shiver...
OF AWESOME!

high five (4.00 / 5)
yes we did!

Chris Bowers, fastest blogger to call the election, beats DKos!

Yeah! Lightning fast draw! Take that, Kossacks! (4.00 / 2)
Really, good job, Chris. Faster than German TV!

OMGWTFBBQ (4.00 / 3)
I'm speechless....

Whew (4.00 / 2)
Alright, relief.

For those who haven't been counting EVs as obsessively as the rest of us, this does indeed clinch it BECAUSE Pennsylvania has been called for Obama.  The ONLY way McCain had ANY chance without Ohio was to win Pennsylvania.

Again... (4.00 / 1)
I want the official projection...  But yes... it looks like we will take this.

[ Parent ]
Worried McCain will take the West Coast? (4.00 / 1)
Cause otherwise, this is just a matter of 'how big does Obama win?' !

Though it appears McConnell is going to win. But Arizona is still TCTC.

and on NBC (4.00 / 1)
Poor Chuck Todd said maybe McCain needs to try to get Iowa and New MExico.  But as we remember from 2004, Kerry would have won with Ohio without them.

Sorry though I have to wait until we get to 270 officially in the projections... Can't celebrate yet... but getting very very happy.

You show me one scenario in which McCain wins... (4.00 / 2)
....and I'll stop drinkin' and hollerin'

[ Parent ]
Logically... (4.00 / 2)
There isn't.   Mathematically, there is...

either way, I prefer to celebrate when the game clock hits 0.   We are up 3 TDs with 2:00 minutes left... we will probably win... I just prefer to wait until its over.

[ Parent ]
so nice to win early for once (4.00 / 2)
Now let's make sure to fix all the voting problems in PA and OH by 2010.

Hmmm. (4.00 / 2)
I just heard it on Democracy Now! where Amy Goodman interrupted David Sirota to announce it.  It was like throwing him a hanging curve ball.

polls still open for half-hour in Iowa (4.00 / 1)
Are we the only state that keeps polls open until 9 pm?

8 pm seems reasonable to me, but anything else seems way too early.

I think NY stays open until 9 (4.00 / 2)

[ Parent ]
I think (4.00 / 5)
the networks screwed up ND.

Look at the exit polls for ND: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20...

Its bad right? But look at South Dakota:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20...

They flipped the states. We'll be getting apologies in an hour.

Wow (4.00 / 1)
That's a great catch. Good eye.

[ Parent ]
Agreed (4.00 / 1)
Sounds like a good prediction by Jack.

great job!

and now, for some celebration.  kool and the gang i think it is :)

South Dakota will just be closer than North Dakota... but still not that close.

Exit polls are weird :-(

[ Parent ]
Congratulations to everyone. (4.00 / 2)
And to America.

I can't seem to stop grinning (4.00 / 3)

The others on the panel are dancing around it, but not really...Matthews was talking about the role that various Dem govs might play in the next administration...LOL.

Do you live in Lafayette? (4.00 / 1)
I'm on the West side.  I think IN might just squeek in for Obama.  Tippecanoe might help send it over the top.

KEEP VOTING, CALIFORNIANS (4.00 / 6)
The No on Prop 8 forces still need everyone to turn out.  Hopefully everyone will want to be a part of this Obama victory, even if it's over, and they'll stick around to vote ...

I voted today in New York City, where our individual votes mean absolutely nothing upticket or down, and everyone -- I mean everyone -- I know in the city voted too.  Everyone just wanted to be part of history.  Hope the same applies in California.

Republicans can't fix our country; they're too busy saddlebacking.

the popular vote always means something (4.00 / 3)
it's the people choice, remember? That is how we get the biggest turnout and the biggest mandate in US history.

[ Parent ]
Yes, totally. (4.00 / 1)
That sentiment was also expressed to me by several people today.

Republicans can't fix our country; they're too busy saddlebacking.

[ Parent ]
Exactly (4.00 / 2)
The more popular votes Obama wins, the stronger his mandate will be to implement his policies.  So if you haven't voted yet, do it now!  He will need all the votes he can get, especially if we aren't going to get 60 votes in the senate.

[ Parent ]
Drudge goes silent... (4.00 / 3)
Not announcing any of this. What a sore loser.

maybe he will do us all a favor (4.00 / 2)
and emigrate to North Korea.

[ Parent ]
thank you Chris (4.00 / 2)
Your forecasts got me through each day of this race. Great job.

Just watched the video outside Grant Park (Chicago victory rally) (4.00 / 1)
It's almost as if the Cubs won the World Series!

(Somehow, I think Chicago will settle for this party.)

Did I miss Iowa being called earlier? (4.00 / 1)
I'm not sure.

Just called. (4.00 / 1)
They were open until 10pm EST.

[ Parent ]
Obama now ahead in VA (4.00 / 2)
wow it's close.  But let's face it, just forcing the McCain people to spend all their resources not just here, but in PA to make up for VA, would be worth it in the big picture.

New Jersey politics at Blue Jersey.

Good point (4.00 / 1)
And forcing McCain to defend NC cost him too.

It's now tied in NC, somewhat disappointing but at least it's much better than it was in 2004.

There's still time tho, we'll see. They may have to count the provisional ballots it is so close.

[ Parent ]
Any NC people around here? (4.00 / 1)
CNN's totals show Obama barely ahead with 70% of precincts reporting.  Are those late precincts likely to help us?

Never mind (4.00 / 1)
Tom Jensen of PPP is brekaing it down county by county.

http://publicpolicypolling.blo...

[ Parent ]
But Obama can't close... (4.00 / 2)
Plus, this is Great news for John McCain.

I guess being able to give a speech ain't a bad thing.

It feels good to win.

And how come he can't win those blue collar voters... (4.00 / 2)
....oh, wait, he did in Ohio at least, and it looks like PA, too!

REID: Voting against us was never part of our arrangement!

Just on MSNBC - and I think that's part long-term demographics

Congratulations (4.00 / 1)
and thank you all.

Now you will need to standby your new President-to-be, and support him in the way to change USA for a more equitable, more human, more considerate and more confident in the joint-effort of mutual effort with the rest of the World.

Global economy, global environment, global peace, all of these can only be achieved by everyone joining effort together.

One thing I believe in Mr. Obama is that his experience of growing up as being a minority would allow him to appreciate how all other minority groups feel about they are being treated.

Yes, he lacks experience, but leading and running any country is not a one-man job.  He needs to be able to pick the right aide and thinktank. None of the past US presidents was experienced economists, military experts.  Given the current economic and unemployment crisis, Obama and his administration face tough seas ahead than any newly selected presidency.  So please, be patient, be ready to support him with candid solution and suggestion.  He as a person can only do that much, but with everyone behind him, the achievement will be remarkable.

Haven't seen anyone call CO yet (4.00 / 1)

Congratulations to all of my Open Left friends. We have come a long way over the recent months, obsessing over every poll along the way.

As a long time supporter of Barack's going back to the 2004 Illinois Primary, I cannot tell you how much this victory tonight means to me. It is a stunning night, and I will celebrate until the sun rises.

[ Parent ]
Wait, who just called VA? (4.00 / 1)
As per Chris' Update 2?

VA looks like a nail-biter (4.00 / 1)
Obama ahead 50-49 with 88% reporting - most of NoVa has reported. I'm a bit concerned about Suffolk Co and Va Beach. Suffolk has reported 0, and less than half of Va Beach has reported. McCain has some margin coming from those counties, if memory serves me correctly.

[ Parent ]
I thought we had a minority edge in VA beach? n/t (4.00 / 1)

[ Parent ]
I lived just south of the area 2000-2004 (4.00 / 1)
So I'm partially screwed up by personal impressions, but I think VA Beach (The Thelma Drake- Glenn Nye district) is more white than Norfolk (Bobby Scott?, African American congressman).

[ Parent ]
Yeah, it's super tight (4.00 / 1)
It's almost certain that Obama will underperform his polling here, which is a bit disappointing to me.

On the other hand, PA, whoa, that state is blowing up for Obama.  McCain might lose by 20 there.

[ Parent ]
Suffolk Co just went for Obama (4.00 / 1)
It went for Bush in '04 - much better . . . still ready to bite nails...

[ Parent ]
Not Larry Sabato Called it... (4.00 / 1)
According to MyDD

[ Parent ]
Obama pulls ahead in NC (4.00 / 1)
it's 50%-50% with 74% of precincts reporting.

I'm actually more hopeful about NC than VA (4.00 / 2)
Only 57% of Mecklenberg Co (Charlotte) has reported, and Obama has a 100k margin just there.

And NC is currently within 200 votes.

[ Parent ]
Indiana... (4.00 / 1)
Less than 4000 with 88% reporting... Nail Biter.... I hope he takes it.

yep (4.00 / 1)
it'll be very close, I think Obama will eeek it out.

[ Parent ]
74% of Lake Co has reported (4.00 / 1)
Maybe another 20k will be squeezed out there. Don't know how other remaining IN counties will go.

[ Parent ]
Yeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss (4.00 / 2)
Now we need to hammer the pop vote and really send it over the top.  Congratulations and many huge thanks to everyone here and all those who donated and volunteered.  This is better than any super bowl or World series win.

Damn (4.00 / 6)
Wish Toots would have made it another 36 hours or so.

Indiana is still a real possibility (4.00 / 2)

Right on ...! (4.00 / 2)

.... do people say that any more? Should it be left on?

I must be delirious.

Change on! (0.00 / 0)

One thing interesting is that
I compare the states' decision on ABC webpage
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics...

with only Ohio, and Florida, seems that the pattern approximates closely with the one in 2000!! very similar.

But of course I wish to see more blue on the map, especially Indiana, and Virginia

[ Parent ]
Florida showing an Obama lead all night (0.00 / 0)
now widening the lead at 51%-48% with 81% of precincts reporting. Obama's margin is 182,000 votes. Nader got 97,000 votes in 2000.

Vote turnout significant in Tacoma, King county, WA (0.00 / 0)
I am watching the King5 News, the election office will allow those people in line up till 8 pm to vote, but cut off those who arrive later than 8, which is 2 minutes.

Don't know if California is doing the same.

Really haven't seen American so excited in voting since I don't know when, may be Eisenhower and Kennedy's time. The sense of involvement is unbelievable, and I believe it's the charisma of Mr. Obama.
