Second Victory Thread

by: Chris Bowers

Tue Nov 04, 2008 at 22:49

The networks will all officially call the election at 11 p.m. So, consider this an media official victory thread.

Also, I am going to bump the House Forecast above all others. So, consider this an open thread for the Georgia and Minnesota Senate race as well.

Update: With 40% reporting, Franken and Coleman are tied at 40%.

Also, its bedlam in West Philly. Horns honking everywhere. People on the street hugging each other. It feels sublime, and I don't use that word lightly.

Phila turnout? (0.00 / 0)
What's the Phila turnout as a percent of eligible voters?  I'm guess something like 80-85%.  It's about 700,000 voters counted!

80% here (4.00 / 1)
The poll I worked in Upper Darby (just outside West Philly in Delaware County) hit 80% turnout.

The other precincts in the area were similar. VERY heavy turnout.

Obama is behind by about 13,000 votes here in NC but Buncombe, Warren and a couple of other counties that went to Kerry have not reported yet.

But, Obama has OFFICIALLY WON. He IS our President Elect!

I have nothing more to say, except that this day is one many of us in the Obama movement knew would come.

We did it. Again, WE DID IT! I cannot hold back my emotions any longer. God Bless America!

We have an African-American President! (4.00 / 3)

I'm a white guy. And I think this is just so indescribably AWESOME.

I am just overwhelmed. I can only imagine how the African-American community must feel.

What a fantastic moment for America. For what we represent to the world.

Wow. A good friend of mine just called me. He was in TEARS. And he's also white.

  The United States of America.

Especially by the line, "he will be my president." He showed more dignity than I expected.

Very impressed (4.00 / 1)
Ultimately McCain let his advisers lead him into the mud.  I'm glad in the end he decided to try undoing at least a little of the damage.  We need to be one America - one liberal America.  :-)

And McCain is now conceding! (0.00 / 0)

Senator McCain is being gracious, and I salute him for it.

Very great speech of McCain. (4.00 / 2)
Sincere, true, patriotic.

It's because of such a veteran gentleman like him that makes USA a great nation. He reminds me of what American true statesman used to with somebody you can argue and fight with  no hard feeling but trust and understanding.

[ Parent ]
Agreed (0.00 / 0)
He gave a nice speech... His supporters are DICKS.  Fuck them.

[ Parent ]
uh .. sure (4.00 / 1)
no hard feelings with trust and understanding .. understand McCain is like a rattlesnake in the weeds. Trust that.

a politician for his years of service can't be a little Sarah Palin, right?

And furthermore, at least he rattles to give a signal, right? For nowadays politics, that's something comparable to John Wayne's being the Duke.

Burn in hell motherfuckers! (4.00 / 2)
I am indescribably happy (and possibly a bit intoxicated) to learn that Barack Obama has won.

Now I lack the excuse of racism when my father argues that the U.S. is a third world country because it lacks a national health system and a ban on capital punishment.

Now I expect a program of systematic reform of the U.S. economy away from gas and defence towards renewable spending.

Yes, I know I'll be disappinted. But I'm readying for those battles. Hell, when those battles are won, I'm on the first flight in there.

Because goddamnit, nobody else is going to want an expert on sagas and my type 1 diabetes isn't going away on its own.

Americans, thankyou for voting Obama. Please keep that kind of thing up. One more parasite would like to enter.

Obama back up in NC (0.00 / 0)
By about 30,000 votes with 95% precincts in.

NC has flipped (4.00 / 2)
And NV has been called.  We're up in MT, too.

Seeing John Lewis and Gene Robinson tear up is moving beyond words.  I'm so very proud to be an American.  As a Chicagoan I'm even prouder.  I'm saddened Studs and Toots didn't make it, but this is my Dad's birthday and he helped instill progressive values in me.  I'm moved, thrilled, proud.  Wow.

feeling a little down (4.00 / 1)
because the down-ticket races in Iowa are not going well at all. Greenwald is losing in IA-04 and Hubler is losing in IA-05.

In my statehouse district, where both Democrats and Republicans expected a Democratic pickup, the Democrat lost by 141 votes out of more than 16,000 cast.

Wow... (4.00 / 1)
I think my EV prediction will be 3 off... and that's a positive three as I think we are going to take Montana.

NC is looking Obama... Indiana is looking Obama but with a Recount in the wings it could change

MO I think will be close but no cigar.

Still 367 votes, possibly 378...

I guessed 364 too - but would love to see 378 (0.00 / 0)
Coleman (MN) and Merkely (OR) currently look like nailbiters - but as others have noted, Hennepin (Minneapolis) and Multnomah (Portland) have barely reported.
