AP Nails It--Itself, That Is

A 1400-word fairwell puff piece by Ben Feller, White House correspondent for The Associated Press, is quick to lay its cards on the table: judge Bush by his image, not his actions:

Bush's style and temperament are as much his legacy as his decisions. Policy shapes lives, but personality creates indelible memories - positive and negative.

Call it distinctly Bush.

No, call it distinctly AP, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, NYT, LAT, M$M.  Call it a totally depraved media system that can't possibly tell the truth, except about sports scores and the weather.

The headline of the AP story? "Analysis: Bush's personality shapes his legacy"

The truth?  "Media Sycophants Shape His Legacy, With Stories Just Like This"

Paul Rosenberg :: AP Nails It--Itself, That Is
According to AP, here is Bush's legacy with respect to 9/11:

Bush's words betray him sometimes.

"They misunderestimated the compassion of our country," Bush said of the Sept. 11 terrorists.

And here is Bush's legacy with respect to war:

Bush's words betray him sometimes....

"I talk to families who die," he said, meaning the loved ones of those who perish in war.

"Every day has been pretty joyous," he said recently, summing up one of the hardest presidencies ever known.

The toughest moments for him come when he meets the grieving families of the troops he sent to war. Or when he meets severely wounded troops in recovery. Many of the hurting tell Bush they want to get back out in active duty. He is moved by the sacrifice.

"I do a lot of crying in this job," Bush once acknowledged.

Here is Bush's legacy with respect to torture:

No, wait, I'm sorry, that was his legacy with with respect to Guantanamo.

Here is his legacy with respect to torture:

And here is Bush's legacy with respect to Iraq:

Wheras, here is Bush's legacy with respect to al Qaeda:

His legacy with respect to Katrina:

His legacy with respect to Wall Street:

The sub-prime mortgage fiasco:

Enron:

And the economy as a whole:

Pretty impressive, no?

I'm glad you're on this early. It's much cheaper not to build the monument than to hire folks to chisel his face and cartouche off them after they're erected. (Mmm.... Come to think of it, I suspect that many would happily do this work for free.... Well, never mind, then.)

Oh a statue to Bush! that would be fun. (4.00 / 1)
Imagine the years of fun that would produce! I insist that we build a statue to GW Bush!

Years of educational actions would be possible. Think of the country unifying actions that could be taken, think of the ceremonies that could be held at its feet!!

I am giddy with possibility.

Maybe the Iraqis should build one (4.00 / 1)
You know, in that grand square that they named after President Bush.

It could be one of those community art projects.

A real coming together of the Iraqi people even before all the future activities HousesofProgress giddily looks forward to.

Paul, you and Chris run the most informative blog of all. (4.00 / 2)
Never have I seen such insightful, well researched and  thought provoking articles.  I greatly appreciate the fact that you've challenged everyone of your readers with substantive facts and views and willingly engage in follow up discussions with everyone.

I'm anxious to read and learn more and look forward to what will be a very politically challenging New Year!

(And promise to put my money where my mouth is soon.)

Nationalism is not the same thing as terrorism, and an adversary is not the same thing as an enemy.

Glad you caught this (4.00 / 2)
I read most of the article and was, well, steaming.  Mumbling things like "Who remembers Herbert Hoover's personality" and "puff piece, they ought to hang him im effigy."  It got me thinking how Hoover spent months in the Waldorf Astoria instead of going home and how Buchanan's route home was lighted by non-friendly bonfires.  Yup, we love the personality of ineffective, misguided Presidentd: not.

Barney the dog would have done better than Bush because he would have done nothing.  No tax cuts for the super rich.  No privatization of FEMA, No Iraq war.  No bankruptcy bill.  No FISA or Patriot Act.  Hey, that Barney would have been a good President for a Republican.  Too bad he's not 35.
