Lipinski Attacks OpenLeft, Pera Donors, With a Barrage of Cliches

Rick Perlstein has a great piece on how we're not about to get beyond the 1960s.  Apparently Dan Lipinski's campaign read the article, because here's a flyer they are circulating attacking us as dirty hippies.  My favorite is the use of the word 'punks'.

That's some compelling messaging, especially the part about us crying as babies because our diapers were full.  Is that even an insult?  It seems like that's kind of a standard thing that happens with all babies.

Give to Pera here, you punks.

Update (Chris): I also received the following email from a Lipinski supporter a couple days ago:

Neither is "Irish-Americans for Pera", he probably just put that on his website since many of his volunteers that are not from the District have anti-Irish attitudes. Pera's endorsements are far from diverse, mainly coming from anti-life groups and organizations and politicians not from the District.

Apparently, we Pera supporters are anti-life and and anti-Irish. My Irish-American mother would be surprised to learn that one.

Also, while I have never lived in any of the placed the flier mentions, I have lived in Chicago as recently as 2004.

UPDATE AGAIN:  This is coming from Dan Lipinski.  Here's a half hour radio show where Lipinski rants about 'left-wing extremists pouring money into his district'.

It sounds like .. (4.00 / 1)
Lipinski isn't liking what his internal polls are telling him ..  did Wynn and Lipinski go to the same PR firm for their material?  What a joke both those 2 are .. I hope there are constant updates here on primary day for those two ... I can't wait to see both go down hard

Gutierrez UN-endorsement of Lipinski (4.00 / 1)
Hmmm...Interesting that a Lipinski supporter should complain to you about Pera endorsements.

Lipinski's behavior may be further indication why the Chicago Tribune reported last week that Luis Gutierrez, the ONLY Member of Congress to have endorsed Lipinski, "took the highly unusual step of withdrawing his endorsement of Lipinski."  A story covered by OpenLeft but nowhere in the traditional media other than being buried in a trib article.

But, of course, evidently assuming voters are stupid, Lipinski still has Rep. Gutierrez listed on his endorsement list!

One of my front-pagers (4.00 / 1)
works on the Pera campaign. He's just graduated from seminary. I think he'd be surprised to hear that he makes fun of people who go to church.

Well, You Know (0.00 / 0)
lots of us lefty elitist punk types have been known to engage in a wee bit of self-depricating humor from time to time.

So Lipinski might be inadvertantly right in a totally misrepresentational way.

Can I have my spin-doctor merit badge, now?

Actually, he's probably correct (4.00 / 1)
in this narrow incidence: seminarians DO make fun of people who go to church.

But so do people who, you know, go to church.

How's that for spinning?

I've never really bought the Gandhi slogan (4.00 / 1)
The one that goes

First they ignore you, then they fight you, then you win.

Because to me it's always seemed like first they ignore you, then they go apoplectic in their hatred for you, then they have to go and take some tablets to control their blood pressure.

Still, it's good that Dan Lipinski is standing up for the fine American heartland values of spreading misinformation, demonising the young and propagating an irrational hatred of certain geographic areas.

These are the insane ramblings of a mad-man (4.00 / 1)
Because their diapers were full?

I mean, I can't even believe someone would send this out as a mailer?  Look at all that text ... It looks like it could have been written by Bradley Whitford's character in Billy Madison.

Dan Lipinski? (0.00 / 0)
Fuck that puto.

For some reason, it seems that Obama has some pathological and deep-seated psychological need for Republicans to like him.  Seriously.  It's weird.

And Lipinski's probably a White Sox fan (0.00 / 0)
He gone!

Pera better be a Sox fan, too.

I believe that (0.00 / 0)
unlike his old man, Little Lip is a Cubs fan.

Pera should try doing a mailer with Lip wearing a Cubs hat or something.

It might shift a few votes Pera's way.

Southsider's don't tolerate Cubs fans.

All his mailers are like that (0.00 / 0)
They not only sound like they were written 40 years ago, they look that way as well.

I live in the district, and can say Pera has beat Lipinski on mailers consistently -- Pera's are clean, punchy, with eye-catching graphics, Lipinski's are poorly designed , covered in visual cliches and crammed with unreadable text. Pera sends out many more as well. Can only hope it helps.

The other thing that caught my eye in this one -- Lipinski's married? Huh. Who knew?

Hey (4.00 / 1)
I'm supporting Pera and I grew up in West Allis, Wisconsin, which counts as the Southwest Side (of Milwaukee).  None of my factory working relatives had much truck with big city fancy pants corrupto pols like Lipinski.  The common refrain was, "go back to Chicago, asshole."

In my family, people like Lipinski were called FIBs.  We saw them all the time coming up to Wisconsin resort communities waving all their money around, acting like they owned the place, and laughing at the hard working Wisconsin people who cleaned their rooms, cleaned the fish they caught and served them breakfast at the local cafes.

FIBs like Lipinski are scum.

Shades of Lieberman (0.00 / 0)
If there was any doubt about where Lipinski stands, this puts him squarely on the Lieberman/Zell Miller team. Pera should be able to make some hay with this crude idiocy.

What's the name on the signature? Can't read it. Has anybody done a search on this guy?

I'm on the wrong side of town to vote for Pera, but doing what I can.

Joe Kulys (0.00 / 0)
This reads like it was written by Archie Bunker.

He's got a website that this is also posted on, along with the news that he doesn't live in the district. And it looks like he's already seen the Open Left link. As a once and future Chicagoan, I'd love to see Lipinski go down.

...back in the 1970s and 80s.  I even have a plaque I won in one of the corrupt money laundering spelling bee competitions he ran when I was a kid (3rd place! - blew it on "s-q-u-i-r-e-l-l" though.)

This flyer is sheer desperation but it bugged me enough to fork over some dough.  Y'all should do the same.

and I didn't realize we had hippies here. Ever. More to the point, how did us DFHs get enough money to help Pera?

I would love for Gary Miller (4.00 / 2)
to start attacking me like this! This is so far out there wrong on so many levels that even many 4x4 Republicans would be repelled by it.

Lipinski going the way of Sue Kelly... (0.00 / 0)
Bush Dogs going the way of rubber-stamp Republicans?  Excellent.  Let's thank Lipinski's people for the free press.  =D

e-mail to Lipinski (0.00 / 0)
Lipinski has one of those idiot e-mail contact pages that wants a local zip +4. Easy enough to find one of those, using the internets.  When you do, use a company name, rather than a person. They'll thank you.
