Donna Edwards Up 40-32

This is from the Hotline.  It's an internal poll:

A Lake Research Partners (D) poll; conducted 1/29-31; surveyed 400 Dem LVs; margin of error +/- 5% (release, 2/8). Tested: Rep. Al Wynn (D) and '06 candidate/atty Donna Edwards (D).

Primary Election Matchup

All 10/07 Montgomery Prince George's
D. Edwards 40% 22% 41% 39%
A. Wynn 32% 42% 24% 37%
Fav/Unfav
D. Edwards 57%/ 9%
A. Wynn 52 /na

First of all, this is great news.  Donna is up, and Wynn is at a miserable 32 reelect.  The caveat is that Donna's not breaking 50, so the undecideds could swing the race either way.  Turnout is going to be key on Tuesday, and if the voter universe simply explodes, the new voters could alter these results.

It's important to volunteer for the campaign on election day to communicate with these new voters as they come in to the polls.  You can sign up here.

Here's Tom Schaller's column in the Baltimore Sun.

To put it bluntly, Mr. Wynn, an eight-term congressman, is an embarrassment to his Prince George's County-based district, the state and the Democratic Party. And his past - his machine-style bossism, dirty politics and political bullying - is catching up with him.

In 2006, he sent out a flier implying he had won endorsements from some unions that hadn't endorsed him.

That same year, two of his supporters physically harassed one of Ms. Edwards' campaign volunteers.

This cycle, he filmed a political ad fashioned to look like a news reporter had caught him randomly on the street for an interview, when in fact the ad was staged by his campaign.

And then last week, Mr. Wynn, who is a lawyer, filed a completely bogus Federal Election Commission complaint that charges Ms. Edwards with violating election law. As The Sun has reported, the complaint is so slapdash that it doesn't even bother to cite specific election law provisions.

All of these electoral shenanigans are designed to mask Mr. Wynn's real problem: his voting record, which reflects contempt for voters in his district and the opinions of many Marylanders.

He voted in October 2002 for President Bush's Iraq war resolution. In 2004, Mr. Wynn voted for Vice President Dick Cheney's energy proposal, even though every other member of Maryland's House delegation, including both Republicans, voted nay.

He has accepted more than $200,000 in campaign contributions from banks and lending institutions, and, not surprisingly, voted in 2005 for a Bush administration-backed bankruptcy "reform" bill with punitive provisions for working-class borrowers.

That's quite right.

Good Poll (0.00 / 0)
This is pretty good news. I must admit I have been extremely skeptical on this one. Good job! However the poll shows her support coming mostly from Montgomery County rather than PG.  Prince George's County is a place all to itself--it barely relates (only when it has to) to the State of Maryland. It is its own little world-part DC and part federal worker island and part Maryland. Montgomery County and PG will both turn out big time for Obama on Tuesday so it could go either way. Unfortunately I have learned the hard way not to bet against the Hoyer machine.

PG does relate to DC... (0.00 / 0)
arguably more than the rest of Maryland and this time I'm happy with the awareness about the importance of this race with politically active African-Americans.  I've talked to at least 10 people who vote in PG County but are involved with the Obama campaign in DC and who all back Donna Edwards.  In 2006 Donna was an unknown.  That has changed, in part due to Wynn's aggressive attacks.  If Donna can break even in PG County she will win in a landslide.  Still, I don't put much stock in that poll.  I think is is very much up for grabs.  I hope the Edwards Campaign does a lot of visibility at Barack Obama's event in College Park on Monday.

I'm going out sunday to canvass for her (0.00 / 0)
If anyone wants the info, it is metro accessible, email me at nolan (at) netrootsnation.org.

I can also give you info about a canvass on Sat, but I can't make it myself

Ya mean we might actually win one? (4.00 / 1)
With Mark Pera's defeat in Illinois this week, I heard the same old spiel about netroots impotence that I've heard time and time again. But I was starting to believe it. Our last big success was the ousting of Lieberman from his party in '06. We had some important congressional victories that year, but our test will come when we successfully challenge our own leaders over progressive principles and candidates. If we can't exert a force in our own party machinery, then we really are nothing more than a glorified liberal chatroom.

Let's hope Edwards can deliver. We need it.

Go Donna! (0.00 / 0)
But a word of caution: Lake is the absolute worst of the internal Dem pollsters. I've had nothing but awful experience with her. She's one of those pollsters that is always available to tell her clients what they want to hear.

Don't believe it. If you live in the area, keep working!

Potomac Primaries, The Truth about Maryland 4th Congressional District (0.00 / 0)
OK, we all know Albert Wynn and Donna Edwards; we've seen they ads and commercials but we have to failed to account for the other 4 candidates who are running this same race (George Mitchell, Michael Baluba, Jason Jennings, and George McDermott). Do not underestimate the campaign of either, they may not have the money to compete with the two main challengers but who can? When they spent 1 million dollars in their campaign (Money from PAC & Out of State organizations). We know Wynn and Donna takes money from just about anybody. But at least Wynn is honest about it, Donna still haven't admitted it. Like, Michael said "A Sheep in Wolf Clothing!" Donna Edwards learned in 2006 that Prince George's County is where you get majority of your votes. She just might have bit her tongue and told the truth for once. On  Friday, when interviewing with 103.5 FM WTOP Radio. Donna felt the pressure and gave reference to imposing a Commuter Tax on Maryland residents who travel to the District of Columbia for work! Opps BIG MISTAKE THERE! With the economy the way it is and METRO raising fares, will you really elect someone who will take more money out of your pockets.

Lets throw Congressman Wynn and Donna Edwards a retirement party sponsored by the Citizens of the 4th District.  When you go to the polls on Tuesday, lets close the Wynn legacy and slam the door shut to close the beginning of Donna's. I encourage you all to vote for change. They campaign's are based on fighting each other and not the issues.  Can we afford 2-4 years of Wynn or Edwards feeding their own pocket! I think not!

Here are the true issues each candidate stands for!

Unbiased!
Dr. Michael Baluba - Strong Economic Development

Donna Edwards - She hasn't said her focus is on Wynn
(She wants her cut out of Wynn's money and unseating him is her only chance of getting it)

Jason Jennings - He's optimistic about bring changes in the Community

George McDermott - unfair Judicial treatment and restoring the Checks and Balances of the Constitution

George Mitchell - Education, Education, and Education!

Albert Wynn - My record speaks for itself. Getting things done!

You know I'm very upset at the media for not being unbiased about this election. I guess its "true money talks and BS walks!" Follow the FEC regulations and guidelines about equal opportunity and time for all candidate who request it.

Vote from your Hearts, it impacts your future and wallet.
